Is there a build log on that case?
I would like to read it if so.

    Top piece 2 of 3

I discovered that cheapskate was right. The "feel" on tat red acrylic rod was because it is extruded. Another thing is that u CAN'T cut those on a table jigsaw! They melt and lock the tiny blade inside it, making impossible to take it of, resulting in the loss of it. A really bad thing when you have ONLY one blade left...
As a side effect of that adventure, i had to hacksaw it with the blade inside. Good thing that i use bi-metal blades on hacksaw when cutting acrylic. :)

Although this update doesn't have many pictures, i can garantee to you my friends this: This was the most painfull piece i ever made in casamodding!:eeek:

I had changed radically the main project to this update. In this post i'll be posting the job done with the changed piece that should go into the piece that is highlighted in yellow in the following figure:

    on to the photos:

As usual, i've done a layered acrylic. Drilled and cutted one, and now I'll use it as template to make the second one:
In the middle of this picture, you can see whats left of the red acrylic rod with a hole in the middle of it with ANOTHER transparent rod inside. And in the topmost piece, theres a drawing with the shape of the piece to work.

I put the two pieces together because there will be a acrylic rod from one to another, it is important the exact match between them.

    Time to drill:

    Drilled:

    Cutted:

    Both together:
Before anyone else say so, yes, they look like dragon heads... Or alligators, as you wish :)

With that done, the beauty session for those turned out to be a torture session to me! Man... I feel like being hit by a trash truck!
The guy that invented the "chinese torture" surely never tryied to polish a rough piece!

I had posted just one foto of the whole process because filling, sanding and polishing is exactly the same as the other pieces. But this piece has WAY more details, so WAY more work!

On a side note, i just realized that if you have a piece that it's no comom, you'll need to polish it at least twice! The first one is done so u can see the imperfections. Back to sanding and polishing it again. The good news is that when u first polished it, rarelly you'll need to file it all over again.

After two days working, this is what i've got:

    God! I hate flash!
Not this one, the camera flash!

If u want a better detailed image:

    Well, thats all for now.

See you later fellow modders :)

All that hard work payed off. Have you filed for so long that it feels like someone stabbed you in the neck yet?:hehe:
It looks good. Is the change because you have some new features planned?

Thanks! That polishing job was really painfull!

    Thanks Cheap!

The filing is kinda fast... but the sanding is awfull painfull! I am feeling like a n00b fakir that lay for the first time on a bed made of nails! I was aching from the neck to the base of the spine! Now it only aches when i laugh! :hehe::waah::hehe::waah::hehe::waah:

I am yet figuring if the feature i planned is good enough to carry on with it. As this last piece is not yet done, I'll keep you ppl updated on my ideas. Count on you to help me :)

As usual thanks all for visiting Hephaestus!

    Not a BIIIIG update...

Yesterday i added three other acrilic rods to the las piece.

Rounded its tips to get a better light effect. I am very happy with the end result. A pitty this dang camera doesn't catch the light on it in all it's glory!

I am doing some tests with the scrap pieces from the drilling like the one in the bottom of that image. Polished one and it will serve me well as "feet" for the case.

    That's it.

    The lock

One of the most unique features in this case is the capacity to lock its doors in the "seagull" like position.

For this I designed a lock to hold the oors (panels) in position. Look at the folowing picture:
The highlighted area shows the lock piece. Also notice that there are two square holes in the panels.

This is the project in SU (without the springs):
    "holding" position...

    "release" position.

All the pieces are hand made, and i need very accurate pieces. So i used my "out of the jail" kit:
    Files for all tastes!

As my printer is useless (dry cartidge), I made a notation of the piece that is going to be worked:
    10 X 57 X 6mm

The testint acrylic will b sacrificed for a higher purpose:

So the piece was carefull sawed and filed to get into the rifght size:

I used a teflon tape and a, not 0.5, not a 0.3, not even a 0.1, but a 0.05 fine pen (pigment liner) to do the drawing. How many times have you seen such a pen? The bad thing abou it is that it dry very quickly.

    Drawed:
I used the teflon tape to draw in the piece surface because the acrylic doesn't hold the ink. It would be easily erased by manipulating it.

    Filing...

    ...cuting...

    ... and more filing!

    One down another to go!
    ...

    Both done:
But not the end of the job!

After some (lots of) hours of work, this was done:

    A rapid test fit:
    Works perfectly!

Back for some other filing section:
This last filing is to ensure that all pieces looks the same. My option in this particular piece is to have the transparent acryl to be sanded half opaque. This was done because i couldn't find the 6mm acrylic... A pitty... :/

After some polishing this is what i've got:
    Holding position...

    ...and...
    ... release position.

And, as usual, the end result in the top piece:
This is (again) why i hate this camera flash... If u use flash it overbright the photo. If u don't, it blurs!

And thats all for this update :)

Hope you people like and thanks for visiting Hephaestus!
