News Ubisoft revives Driver, starts new title

Ubisoft, in an unusual move, has revealed it is working on a new version of Driver, with work begun in Newcastle already.

 

..Wait, what?

Wasn't Driver canned after that abysmal Driv3r thing?

 

Useless.

We already have GTA, and Mafia. Mafia II will come out in early 09 and piss all over GTA IV and this 'saints row' thing, we don't need another crappy sandbox car GTA clone game.

I thought the driving was awesome, but thats about it...

 

I loved the original Driver on PC. Driving around, smashing into cars and walls, causing insane crashes and then making a movie out of it. It was the director mode which really made that game awesome.

I totally wanted to go to Reflections to do my Work Experience for School (in 2004), since I live in Durham, but I ended up going to my mum's office at the council.

 

Oh boy, Mafia was the dogs danglies.

 

I really enjoyed Driver: Parallel Lines. Was a very fun game

 

Yea, I hated how they ruined it with random injections of running and shooting. Didn't really work did it.

Ubisoft however seem to be intent on re-inventing quite a few franchises, so I'll reserve judgement until some of them surface. PoP is the main one I'm keeping an eye out for.

 

Yes. Totally and utterly 100% agree. The original Driver was awesome. I loved that game. What was really hilarious was that my grandmother liked playing it!

 

So what about Ubisoft's POD racer then?

 

yeha POD was alright, be interesting to see how they remake it if they were to try

 

if they get back to Driver1, where it's all about the driving. it'd be a superb game: police, driving, gettaway and time limits.

no guns, no walking and no crappy bikes. just cars and cars!

ohh, by the way, for driving games, me wants TopGear test track to be featured in a game

 

What was wrong with driver 3?? I thought it was a great game and enjoyed it very much. I hated driver 1 and 2 and never played the last one.

 

the last driver, Parallel Lines was great during driving parts. enjoyed every moment of that.

but non-driving parts are garbage, IMHO, driver should stick with what it says on the tin: driving.

 

Gran Turismo 5 will have it next year.

 

Will it be artificially flooded to simulate wet tracks?

 

GTR2 has it already, and can simulate rain/dry/cold/hot with any car you can find for it

I couldnt bare playing driver one because of the rediculous loading times, it was like 20 seconds gameplay and then 3 minute loading. I spent more time watching a loading screen than playing the game.
