Case Mod - In Progress Battlestar Galactica Mod: Complete!

Niiicee. Looking very cool man. I love how the lettering has turned out! Can't wait to see the LCD panel in action.

Having visited your site, I also found out you did the 737 case! One of my favourite mods of all time, and I didn't know the inventor was our very own Boddaker...

 

Thanks man! Yeah, that 737 is mine. I still get comments about it.

I'm hoping to get that LCD mounted and done this weekend. It's a tight fit between the side panel and the motherboard tray, but I think I can squeeze it in.

Here's a quicky update:

Work continues on the LCD panel. Placed it on the case with the side panel for positioning.


Testing for clearance...


After that I decided to get the smaller lettering glued on.


A closeup shot (don't mind the mess, the letters will be painted):


Here's a shot with the protective sheet peeled off. I screwed up by spilling CA glue all over the front of the panel.
Now I got some polishing to do!


A couple shots with the ccfl's behind it. Looks like the opaque black acrylic isn't as opaque as I thought. Will have to
cover the back of it with something to keep the red from showing through.

If you need the acrylic opaque, use black spraypaint behind it

It's a trick aquarium hobbyists like myself use on show tanks to get a nice shiny and deep background.

BTW I am a huge fan of the show and you are doing FANTASTIC work!

Thank you everyone for your kind words! It's great to be back modding again on a more consistent basis. I am now in my new house, but still working out of boxes until I get my workshop set up. But I can't afford to wait any longer on this case, otherwise I would hold off until my shop is done. So that just means more updates for you guys!

Thanks for the tip Acid Rain. I was thinking I would probably have to coat the backside of the panel with something. I am looking into this foil tape that might be easier to apply than painting. I just need something that light won't pass through. Although I might leave the area behind the smaller lettering open so I get a bit of back-lighting there. Maybe go with a 4" ccfl on top and a 12" below for the GALACTICA part.

Dude that looks immense! Its turned out brilliantly. At the moment I'm quite tempted to buy a ticket and fly over to have a closer look...

 

That looks epic!!!!! It always looked good but now it's all comingtogether it's brilliant.

Whilst I know you don't like the red coming through the black plexi, it almost looks like the cylon "eye" thing lol

I love it, I am looking forward to seeing it all painted up, but prior to that, I'm looking forward to a teaser shot with the panels and top on

 

Another quicky update:
Got the foil tape from my friendly neighborhood Pep Boys. Only $3.49 for a 2" x 10' roll.
Applied it to the back side of the panel and cut away the area around the lettering holes.



Here's a shot from the front with the tape applied. No more red showing through! I also hooked up
the LCD screen to make sure it worked, and threw on the landing bay, just for Mother Goose.
