    "I had a dream." I dreamed that someday I could mod a notebook. :D

I didn't see anything like a extreme mod made from a notebook in anywhere in the net, so i guess i am the first one. I started it back in october 2007, so it's a long way untill now.

(edit: A COMPLETE mod that it is)

Welll i had an old, VERY OLD notebook (pentium 266 with 32mb ram). Then i used it to buid a nice mp3 player. Nice magic: Turn a notebook into a mp3 player :D

My friends know that i love wood and acrilyc. And someday i will build a mod made of them both in the best "Greeensabath style".

By the time i started to build thi mod, i didn't had many tools, and didn't want to spend too much in materials. So i used just left overs.

My project starts from this point:

These are the essential pieces of the notebook: mobo, soundcard, HD and the TLCD. I opted not to use a DVD/CD and use just a pen drive and who in the world cares about diskette drives anyway? The PSU of this modl is built in, so it had to go off to save space too. I wished the "thinner" case possible. I also opted not to use its built in keyboard.
At this point u can see that i soldered the USB away from the mobo, so i could use it away from the case itself. I did this because i couldn't use a normal extension (like a hub) simply because the case didn't had the space to use it.

Here you can see the case from the back.

From front. Sorry about the terrible photo.

This notebook comes with a touchpad like mouse. I had the idea to keep it, but use it away. Later on i merged the USB with the mouse. This is the box i made for them:

One thing to note is that i want ALL the lights in this rig to be controlled via k/b. I am using both scroll lock and num lock to use as "turn on/ turn off" buttons. I am using a 2.1 speaker system. The subwoofer box will contain both the psu for the main rig and the font for the speakers itself.

But you will all have to wait untill the next post :D

    Cheers friends :D

I see you are working with materials you can get there this time. Nice setup. I know whatever you will do will be kick*ss.:D
I hope you get the materials you need for Hephaestus soon too.
I've been thinking about modding the PILE of old laptops into something useful. I like the idea of an mp3 player.

    Thanks friends :D

    Hail Cheaps! Thanks mate :D

Actually, this mod is made in the best "Cheapskate" way: I didn't bought anything. Just used things that were lying arround :D
I had installed Win ME in this machine, because it is the only OS it supports. Unfortunatelly :/
Even thou, it is a bit hard to keep media player roling with a full screen visual FX.

On a side note, the problem with Hephaestus and Odinn, is the lack of time now. But again, i have faith that i will finish them both ;)

Surely if it'll do ME and 95, you could've had 98SE? Much better tbh. :)

Nice work, although you're not the first person to mod a notebook tbh. :p

    Very cool; nice acrylic work.

I hate to burst your bubble but many notebook mods have been done before.

Most recently I recall seeing a watercooled laptop here on bit-tech.
I've modded my Asus eeePC quite extensively as well.

Aye, iknow there are LOTS of notebook mods. But they are still notebooks. In the end you won't say that this project used to be a notebook :D
Remember also that i started back in oct 2007

@ Kikkit: Thanks! I will really consider the using of a WIN 98SE OS.

@ Langer: Thanks for the words! Just checked your EEPC work! It is amazing

    UPDATE - 02/sep/08

I've made a simple circuit that will swap the blue leds with the red leds with HDD activity. Besides that i soldered the lights to be lit acording to k/b comands. Used the num lock and scroll lock to accomplish this. REMEMBER: this is just a music box! :D

The simple circuits are mounted behind the mod itself. It will be covered with a backplane with the logo.

    Some pictures up to now:

To mount everything until this point...

    ...I took this much time:

A better picture. But there is lots of things yet to be done.
