Should we feel safe or be even more worried - I can't make up my mind! http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/09...039s-gordon-freeman-spotted-cern-atom-smasher
They are. Though tomorrow they are just running a stream of particles round it to make sure it works, collisions will be tested in one month but IIRC the actual time frame to make sure its all running then start doing proper collisions is 2010 ish.
Indeed, from what I have read, the machine will start up, and slowly it will speed up and up and up until the speed is 9.999999999 the speed of light, then they will do the "big" experiment. At the end of the day, it might not work at all, and it could be a waste of money, on the other hand, it could change the world forever.
I am so fed up of telling people in school that nothing is going to happen and that they are absolutely ****-tarded. Seriously, look at the comments on any videos to do with this on YouTube and any self respecting person who is interested in Physics will be infuriated.
Someone did x] http://blog.reddit.com/2008/09/crowbar-headcrab-and-half-life-strategy.html also, a larger pic of the one in the article...
Already done, my friend. http://blog.reddit.com/2008/09/crowbar-headcrab-and-half-life-strategy.html By the way, I've heard there is a Gordon Freeman at CERN. Bah! Beaten to it... I knew I should have read the whole thread.
These are interesting and cool times we live in people. Personally I have awaited the completion of the LHC for about 15 years - or however long it was since I first remember reading in a national scientific magazine that construction had been approved and that digging had begun. The next couple of months - not to mention years - are going to be really interesting indeed. I am currently at work, but I am following the live video feed from CERN, too bad I have to go to a meeting at 1000hrs which is when they are going to start spooling up for the test. Nice find on Gordon Freeman though ... I love that!
Unfortunately, being a European project, this "Freeman" is very possibly French (just look at that cardigan!) and would presumably surrender to the headcrabs. Someone should photoshop in the G-man somewhere.
