It's round-up time once more and this time we've got a boat load of bags, mouse mats, MicroSD cards, hard drive docks, gaming mice and...um, SATA II cables to look at. Check out exactly why bits and bobs have been cluttering our desks lately in the latest round-up.

A good read, I was't sure you could pull off a 1 page review of a SATA cable but you did it!

 

A word of warning. I had one of these and it would randomly turn everything off which becomes highly annoying. I could play my PS3 for hours with out issue but if i tried to watch a film on the PS3 the intelliplug would switch everything off anywhere from 5-20 minutes into the film. It would occasionally go into some sort of spasm and switch itself off every few minutes as well and need to be recalibrated, Intelliplug technical support could not fix the issue so it was returned to the shop. So now i save myself £30 by having everything plugged into a surge protector and just switch it off at the wall when i'm not using it.

Oh an as an 'AV' device it does not use discreet on/off commands so its very hard to use with a programmeable remote control. Its promising tech but its not mature enough yet.

 

For me, everyday is the best day ever - that just how awesome working at bit is!

The SATA dock is available from another company (who may have been ripped off, I seem to remember these guys were the first ones to do it in that style), except they do one with a USB hub in it too!

 

Oh god you make me feel ill

 

First: the intelliplug is allready invented but it is larger, has over voltage protection and a switch to turn of everything at once with one vinger! And they come in different sizes:




And for the ultimate power distrubition block, you can check this one out You can control the individual sockets with the software running on your pc via USB and it can be managed by network.

Second: The HD docking station box art is misleading, i espected a Harddisk with a transparent sidewindow

Oh, wait, no. That's the lack of income giving me that feeling...

Anyways, definitely review more SATA cables. I want pictures of Richard getting attacked by rubber bands next time.

the mousemat is coarse not course

also those hard drive docks are great if you want to archive/backup lots of data
i use one at home to archive off all my 'stuff' p) to a bunch of disks i have sitting in a drawer and use one at work for backups

 

but seriously, joe, you will pay for putting that pic up!

Actually had one of those nova mats and the responsiveness is the best i've ever felt from a mat with laser or optical. Only problem was the lack of a wrist rest.

i think they are a bit marmite - if you love em - you'll LOVE them. if not a bit meh.

 

£10 is a lot for a 2GB card. Mine was half that.

I agree - it's available for about £6, but once you factor in delivery, it's more than £10.

 

that SATA drive caddy has me concerned. in my typical fashion of piling crap on my desks (and everywhere else in my room), that drive would be sure to get hit sooner or later with it sticking up strait in the air like that (especially when a specific mate of mine decides to show up somewhat drunk and rant about conspiracy theories at 2am). I'd like to see a 2x 5.25" bay that has 3 hot swappable sata drive slots in it. now that would be useful (but then it wouldn't be in an 'on our desk' feature though. dammit).
