So right now I must have over 100 peices of clothing doing nothing (hardly any of it worn), most of it was given to me by my brother who never wore the stuff also (he has the equivilent of top shop in his cupboard, so he can't possibly wear all of it). So I know I can give it to charity, but a part of me is just thinking (Why the hell should a charity benefit from selling the clothes when we've spent prob over £1000 on the stuff)... So is it only eBay and charity? Or is there something else?
You could give it to charity... or ebay... or both? Why don't you sell them on ebay for a small profit, and use their services to donate 20% to a charity of your choice?
When I clean out my closet, I give my clothes to charity, unless it's something really nice, then I give it to a neighbour. As long as I know someone is benefiting or I get a thank you out of it, I'm happy. Money isn't always the most important thing.
I give them away. I put them off to the side where I deposit my trash and there's always people that come and go through it to use.
I have the same prob., my closet is full of stuff that I dont wear anymore because my style change a lot in the past year. I was thinking ebay, but I doubt that I would get a satisfying price. I guess I'll try a second hand store.
Offer them up to charity. Over here we have the Salvation Army that accepts donated clothes; surely you have something similar.
I've done a few closet clear outs in the last few months, all to charity. Never considered selling second hand clothes on ebay, can't see that they would fetch anything worth while. Its easier to give to charity, and hey, its charity.
Be careful of those "charities" that drop off bags looking for free clothes. They'll take them abroad and sell them. Take your bags straight to a bricks and mortar charity shop.
That reminds me of a story I was told last year. A professor brought a never-worn shirt that didn't fit him to our 6 person class and offered it to whomever wanted it. He said that he avoided charities after some time ago when he donated a jacket but somehow left a business card or something similar in one of the pockets. He said that he received a call from an adult in Africa begging him to adopt him so that he could move to the US.
while it may have cost you/your brother 1000 pounds, all up, there are people who simply cant afford 10 pounds an item (if you can get anything for that sorry not too sure on the cost of clothes over there), surly you will get some sort of warm feeling out of that
Couple of charities in Exeter, who could perhaps put the clothing to good use: http://www.stpetrocks.org.uk/ http://www.ehag.org.uk/ Give them a call. Ask them if they could use good used clothing. If they can't they might suggest someone who could.
A big fire! Eh, pretty much your choices are second hand stores, charity, ebay. Maybe a car boot/jumble sale. Personally, I'd ebay with X % going to charity or something.
Yeah, why should charities benefit from your money wasting? I think you misunderstand the concept of "charity".
(why the hell should you benefit from selling the clothes your brother has spent probably over £1000 on...)
Take pictures of everything, wait for a 5p listing day and list all your items on there. If it doesn't sell, relisting is free the first time I believe (maybe only if you sell it). But anyways, what doesn't sell you can always give to the charity shop.
