    Thanks Guys!
Spoke with Fred Stinger last night.. it looks like a custom CPU waterblock for this project is going to happen.. :thumb:
It will be made of all-copper (polished) and threaded for G 1/4".. the G 1/4" thread was a bit of a sticking point. Fred is an old-school NPT-barb guy.. I am going half on the tap with him to close the deal...
I month ago, I never heard of a stinger water block.. I just stumbled upon them.. Here are some pictures of his work, both new and a few years old

    still need more MOTM votes..

need help paying for that one-off stinger..;)
I am trying to get him to build some X48 chipset blocks as well.. not as much luck in that vain.. but I have a plan! more on that, soon..
    have a great weekend Gentleman..

You got my vote mate. Beautiful looking block they are. Very nice attention to detail on Fred's behalf. They look very well made.

From what I understand, with a good backing plate
and pressure, the stinger is said to out-perform "big name" blocks.. But, in my 7/16 OD loop not sure if the flow will be there for world class temps.. Not the reason I want one IMHO, they look great. As long as performance will be on-par with other main-stream blocks, I am happy..
No details yet (price or time-frame) on the stinger. I will let you know ASAP, I also asked Fred to take and send me some "work on progress" pictures..
    more soon

are those barbs custom turned, and how the hell did he tighten them, finger tight with PTFE tape?

@burnout - he likely uses a strap wrench. Also ModSquad mentioned that scorpion uses NTP threads, which are a tapered thread frequently used in hydraulic applications - a very strong hold w/ tight seal.

That's some nice stuff. With that kind if skill it's odd he isn't making his own O-ring sealed barbs too.:eyebrow:

A agree, perhaps in the future he will. NPT and barbs are a thing of the past (IMHO). Today, it's all about G 1/4 and as you said o-ring barbs (compression fittings in my case)..

@ Burn21 -- yes Fred does make his own barbs, in fact he adds some sort of nozzle inside the inlet barb.. This was a bit of a issue with him not wanting to do a G 1/4 thread for my block ( he also does not have the tooling).. But at the end of the day we came to terms and my-stinger block will be tapped for G1/4..

@ ice tea -- Langer is the guy who will be using the heatkiller stuff.. I like there blocks very-much, but I want something different (unique).. The all copper stinger block will be that.. I may use heatkiller stuff for the videocard and/or X48 northbridge.. At this point in time it seems only danger den has a X48 northbridge waterblock..

    @j303 -- much-thanks!
    @AFX -- I think they look cool..

    Thanks MC
Just checked out your project.. Very-nice..

    STINGER NEWS
    it's now-confirmed.. This project will have a custom (all-copper) CPU-waterblock..
    I just sent-off a "down-stroke" payment to FS..
Which is close to the budget for this machine for October.. Out of money is not always a bad-thing.. It forces you to use your imagination instead of your credit card to mod the box...:D

That is great news. I am really looking forward to seeing your water block. If you don't mind me asking how much does a full copper block cost. It looks cool, I may invest in one for a later mod.

    Back in Black

Only a small update this weekend (sorry)..
Friday morning brought me a box from the good-folks at
    [IMG]
Yes, that is correct.. Danger Den gear making it's way into this project !! Can you believe it, non-German waterblocks in my machine.. they sent me a t-shirt with the blocks, that's what made me do-it..
    two unmarked boxes:
    contents
    [IMG]
a MPC-Universal Chipset Block ( both these blocks have DD's optional brass tops )
    and an MPC-X38/X48
    [IMG]
this is the only game in town for Intel X48
the package even includes a backing-plate..
    nice-work danger den..:thumb:
    the blocks:
    ultra-flat..
    finish:
    good, but not-great..:nono:
    here is DD's chipset block:
both the universal and the X48, share the same (MPC) base..
I want to watercool both north and southbridge on this project, but also want that custom Stinger to be the focal-point.. The answer is to "tone-down" both...
    rattle-can paint:
    then, ready-GO
    [IMG]

Yes, I now.. I painted the barbs.. It's only compression-fittings for me.. I have a box-full of "junk" barbs.. (IMHO) this is all they are good for...:thumb:

DD northbridge mounting plate.. sorry, but I don't what to read (see) DD and x38...
different paint (that will not attack plexi), but the same flat-black..
done.. just watching paint dry and drinking:
    Until next-time.. All the best..

Shame you painted the blocks, they looked really cool. I guess you can't let them take the show away from the Stinger block though lol.

I agree. If the DD tops where copper I would not have painted them. The brass (IMHO) would have looked out of place, and I just don't like the look of the X48 northbridge acrylic top with it's DD logo and the "MPC X38"...
I need say thanks to Danger Den for the above gear.. I have been lucky enough to get a good deal of help on this project thus far..
