    Hi
My display is actually a 4x20 my mistake sorry
I will shorten the cables and report back

    Thank you for your help

    Edit:
I’ve now shorted the cable and no change
Here’s a picture of it not working

Any help will be most appreciated

    Edit 2:
I’ve tested the LCD with a parallel lead I made and it works fine, it must be something to do with the circuit that I’ve made but what?

    Edit 3:
    YES YES
    It lives!!
    The LCD now works perfectly

The problem with it was the board I had soldered the RW and EN together by accident (Sorry for my incompetence)
Thanks for all the help guys

    Edit 4:
Here’s the picture of it working

By the way is it possible to have a copy of the source code for this, as I want to add temperature sensors to control a fan

    Edit 5:
I’ve encountered an issue with the unit. When I put the pc to sleep and wake it up the display will not function. If I close LCDsmartie before standby then & open after the system wakes up it works. So my question is can I get windows to shutdown LCDsmartie before sleep and run LCDsmartie after wakeup. Or another solution may be if the unit is never powered down during the pc's sleep i.e. it is powered independently (power hub?)

    Thanks for your help

Has anyone managed to make the Microchip USB CDC work with Vista Ultimate 64 SP1?

I have tried the before mentioned drivers from the obddiag page as per scorpia's post but after installing them Vista reports "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
and also in properties>details>install error: "There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. E0000203"
Microchip's last published driver isn't helpful when it comes to Vista 64 either.

I really hope that you have some solutions up your sleeves.
    Thanks for reading,
    Caesar.

PS: works fine in XP though but it's not an option.

gsila, you will need to check the cables to the LCD and make sure they are not too long.
Or edit the source code and put some nop's in the LCD writing routine.

Just a quick note...with permission from ch424, I will be making the source code available to those that would like it (links coming soon). There will be different versions...one for the rotary encoder and one for the buttons. If time permits, I will compile hex for the different microcontrollers that are mentioned in this thread. If there is anything else wanted/needed (as far as the source code), please let me know.

Atmega 8 or similar would be great if possible cause its 1/3 the price of the 18F2550 btw. And some more GPOS or keypad support would be very nice also.

I have only dealt with the PIC...sorry no Atmega from me.

I have a version that has support for 5 buttons. Would that work for the keypad? Only slight modification from the rotary encoder hardware.
