your 'structure' paint is also known as textured paint. You need to be careful clear coating it though. Nice work on the mod... and the mobo ;)

Allready mentioned the containers that this mods uses, but this update covers all the pictures.

    Containers

Out of polystyreen I made a container, which is used a lot in the game.

Glued it together with modelling glue.

Made another 3 of these for the backlot.

With painterstape I marked the small pieces on the edges.

Try out with a light behind it.

Time for some paint. I had to gamble on the color, but this is the best what I found.

Here the 4 containers are drying after the primer and second coat.

Added the warning decals one by one, by hand. What a **** job !

This is how it looks like now.

Added on one of the containers a small print with 3 leds, that slowly fades in and out.
Below the warning decals, I did not paint, so the green glow comes through it very lightly.

I decided that light glow was not enough after all, so I ordered another 100 green ultrabright leds in Hong Kong.

Desoldered the old ones and attached the new ones.

It is now a lot brighter. ( sorry my camera doesnt grasp the fade-in-fade-out )

To enhance the effect, I added 4 blocks of polystyreen, measuring 1.5 x 1.5 milimeter.

Now the glow shines underneath it better.

And finaly the effect in a 10 second YouTube movie.

( am I doing the youtube link wrong? )

    Well, I can give you a glimpse of the crane allready. It is not finished yet, but it will give you an idea where we are heading;

    The Crane

This is how I made the C&C GDI Base crane vehicle. From the ingame screenshote I tried to estimate the length and width, and used polystyreen to replicate it in about the same dimensions as the Recom case.

The grippers have exactly the same dimensions as the container.

    Close-up of the cabine buildup.

Made some hinges out of old bolts and nuts.

Slowly the crane is beginning to take shape.

Through Marketplace, I found these children's tractor and trailer, cost € 8, -. The wheels of it have the perfect size for the crane.

Too bad for the children, but those wheels are perfect for my mod.

    From the game....

    ..into polystyrene.

This shot is just before spraypainting.

    Then the warning decals.

    Started with some small details.

Like in my Wall-E mod, this whole thing needs to be "aged". Still some work to do. :D

From the screenshots I see on both sides of the case some kind of windows.
I will try to imitate that. First, I purchased some strips of perforated steel and made them to size.

This is thin aluminum foil which is often used in airconditionings.

I cut some strips to size.

Here they are on the case where the windows will be.

And on top of them, the steel strip that I primed and sprayed.

And the same two more times for the two sides.

    :D

I have rolls and rolls of that chrome tape! I got it years ago at a Dollar Geneneral. I used some of it when I insulated and sheetrocked my tackroom.
Never would have thought of it for a mod.
Excellent use of available materials. I'm impressed.

You did WHAT to your WHAT ? :D

    thanx John.

This mod is almost done, and still a month to go before the deadline. I can take a break now, and work on my STING project. In two weeks the Dutch Championship is here and I am one of the final 5 in the caseconstruction catagory with my R2-D2 case. I'll let you know what place I will end there. :)

A tackroom is an outbuilding like a garage but not attached to the house, supposed to keep saddles and other "tack" for horses in it. Mine is 12' X 24'. I wired it for electricity and insulated the walls. After you insulate the walls, you can apply a plastic barrier - like a garbage bag but thicker and comes on rolls. The you take the tape and seal all the joints where the plastic comes together. Cut the holes for the electric outlets in the sheetrock drywall and put that up. Everything sealed and a small 1500 watt heater will keep it warm in Denver. Looked really cool with the black plastic and the chrome tape.

I was being frugal so I used the Dollar store brand.

As the really really last thing, I'm posting here a very irritating movie I made ( hehe ) of the lights which the two vehicles make. This mod is without any PC inside, but it IS totaly prepared for it. This contest was all about the outside, not the inside.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dddSMnkELeU

I hope you enjoyed reading this worklog as much as I enjoyed making it.
I wish the other contestants of this competition the best of luck ( well, not TOO much ofcourse...)

I've found a way to youtube link it- Get the code in the embed section of the youtube page and paste it into the post, then use the advanced editting options to wrap youtube tags around it... like so:

Hope you don't mind me fixing the videos... I'm just obsessive like that!

Frenkie, you are the master at this stuff! Great work, and good luck with the contest. I'm sure you'll do well. :thumb:
