i'd like to report ozstrike as deserving of reputation for this excellent idea. also, why does this thread have a phantom third page? also also, glider wtf? i thought you had left us forever. welcome back.
Ummm well one has 76,000 members..... so bigger than bit and to deal with any rep abuse they just recruited a couple of other mods and it works out brilliantly. the other is alot smaller at 4000 members but it still works very very well.
It's an interesting idea, which I like. I was hoping the rep quotes could be a little cooler though... (ie, something from a text based adventure game from the 80s... "ModMinded is in a dank, dark tunnel... there is light ahead.") I guess I could just make that my tagline... lol
How do you leave a reputation mark for someone. I'm not sure I get this. Someone said to click the little green box, but that does absolutely nothing.
you don't, moderators do. edit - apparently snarky posts are the best way to get reputation points. two different moderators have given me rep for this comment, and my reputation on this post is "very positive". the only two posts since the rep system was enacted where i've been an ass are the only two that have earned me reputation.
I still don't quite get the use of the system... Do mods award rep automatically, or should users PM them for it or what? Maybe this can be adressed in the anouncement at the top?
I thought it was clear from reading this thread but to reiterate: At the mo only Mods can actually work the rep button and give rep for "useful" posts, but any member who's maybe got some good help from someone can contact a mod and ask hir to pass some rep on on their behalf. Mods are also reading the forum as usual and giving rep as they think deserved. Makes a nice change from just wielding the banhammer.
So by default it's an 'automatic' kind of thing, but users who deem a post extremely helpful (or quite horrendous) can PM a mod to ask for a boost
Yep, currently mods give rep to good posts they see but users can nominate others too. The system may change, it may not, we're still discussing it.
Out of interest, how do you make sure you don't overlap each other? Edit: And why do I now see a button to add to my own reputation?
