Trackmania, the fast and free arcade race with a focus on crazy jumps and insane speeds has made the leap to the DS. Can the hardware cope with this fully 3D racer, or is a pit-stop in order? Joe takes a look to find out, stopping only to admire the squirrels.

    :)

When i saw this was going to be released on the DS i thought it was going to be a mistake, but just looking at the screenshots it seems to have captured the escence of the PC version, and for a DS game it looks mighty good too!

Not quite. Mario Kart is miles ahead of Trackmania, but it's still pretty fun.

Ha yes Joe given, but if we exclude MK which as you say, is light years ahead of everything else. I've been wondering about a more 'traditional' racing game but can't see anything which massively appeals...

Well, I've heard GRID is pretty good on the DS too, but this is definitely the best racing game I've played.

I would enjoy it much more on the PSP, personally. Better screen, better graphics, and analog stick Cheesecake.

Thank god. i was thinking of picking this up, hoping it would be as good as all the other trackmania games (which are the only racing games i can win).

win meaning get a gold medal, or win meaning win an online race?

because you're a god if it's the latter. some of those guys are crazy.

win meaning beating my brother - he's always been a racing game fanatic. he beats everyone i know at games like grid, grand tourismo and need for speed. I have the advantage of being smarter than him
