Use it for everyday use to bike to work and also on weekends to go offroad. :)

No point driving my car to work when its only a 6min bike and the weather so so BLOODY HOT. Was in the 40's today.

Have had it for like 3 years now and had nothing go wrong with it. Apart from flat tyres.

New bike today for racing and general nice weather, thought I'd share some porn. Sorry for the poor quality.

I just got my old bike back from my friends house. It's been there, unused, for about 18 months so I'm guessing it needs a bit of a service! What do I need to do to it?

If I start riding more often, I might put a bit more money into it. Would I be better off just upgrading parts on my current bike, or just starting again?
It's a Marin Bobcat Trail, bought quite a while ago.

I'm in need of some reccomendations for a bike.

I have a cycle to work scheme about to start up for me in February (apparantly) so I need a good bike for the following:

    10 miles each way, monday-friday
Relatively poor roadsurface (think country lanes, not well maintained)

    Budget: £1500

    Anyone?

    Looks like Schwalbe to me

Make sure everything that should be lubricated is lubricated. The gear cables might have dried out so put some light lube into the gear cable outers and on the cable that is inside the outer. Make sure the brakes are working properly and adjusted correctly. The wheels should probably be the same as when they were left but just give the spokes a quick check to check none are loose. Make sure the tyres aren't cracked or decayed in any way.

If you get into riding get a decent bike, don't upgrade the bits of a bad frame.

I left that in boro and it's an offroader, not a road bike. The current £200 one I got from halfrauds isn't really designed for as much as what I'm doing so I think the random squeaks are signs that something will break soon

With that kind of budget Doug, I'd be looking for a pair of bikes tbh. A roady for commuting, and an off-roady for weekend. :D

A bit opulent, but that's the best bit.

Well, we have the option of it, I'd like to do it, but my priority would be to spend the majority of the money on a really good road bike.

I saw one of those in a catalogue and I liked it, but aren't disc brakes better?

Best one I had was Marin Bear Valley on STX equipment, back in high school. I built it myself from scratch. But that was about 10 years ago...
    Now have a new one - A6 ;)

Wheels were going to be the first thing I was upgrading, and my budget was around £300. :waah:

Yep, depending on just how much money I don't have I may buy some more.

Sort of. They're more powerful for sure, but they carry a pretty hefty weight premium over caliper brakes (like on that Spesh). Discs are also overkill on a road bike, and I would worry about locking up on tyres that skinny too. In short, I would definitely have rim brakes on a road bike.

For what it's worth, I'm definitely in the "two bikes" group. Get one for commuting (~£300 is all you need spend), and spend the rest on a mountain bike. £1200 will buy you something really nice.

I like Zipps although i've never ridden them. When it comes to crunch time (it may be sooner than I thought...) it'll be something like Zipps or some handbuilt wheels - a friend of mine has some handbuilt wheels which are the dogs bollocks although his wheels cost more than my bike so I doubt I'll be buying those.

Aw man, you need to ride some zipps. they turn the bike into a rocket. I've owned many good hand built wheels, spinergyies, kysruims, mavic carbon tri spokes, campag areo wheels, and none of them close to the zipps. Hadle like they are no rails, accelerate really eaily due to carbon braking surface, and are super stiff due to the nipple ending at the end of the rim, rather than having an unstructural faring like corima, hed, and allot of hed, planet x.
Not to mention the bling factor!lol
