Argh... freaking frak! Download from legit site failed at 71%... connection with server reset. Gonna have to try again from the technet site.
See post #36. The only upgrade path is from Vista SP1 No problems downloading or getting keys, but can someone confirm a clean install is possible before I format a hard drive?
Yeah, I had a clean install! I am writing this on it now!! Only one of my laptop's 9 drivers had compatibility issues.... Go for it! (Keep another working PC at hand just incase it goes FUBAR!) Dave
Sorry for the incorrect info. It says clearly that the only upgrade available is from Vista, not XP (which makes sense) As dave said, clean install is not a problem. I was able to install it on a 20gb ide drive. Needs about 14gb. For those interested, here's MS FAQ on the beta: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-faq.aspx
The links for the keys work perfectly fine. Thanks, kenco. The links for the ISOs work fine as well. Thanks, Fluffy. However speed is not even funny @ <100kB/s. Going to get a torrent now. Oh, by the way. The keys from MS are not unique. Just saw somebody on TPB post some of the keys I received. So if anyone needs key.... PM or just use the links.
Just started downloading with the plan to do it overnight...currently getting ~15-20KBps. Won't even be half done by the time I wake up
I've got a key, and downloaded the 64bit version and I'm installing it now, I'm going to be dual-booting with vista.
it's about 3GB, so no. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx once they confirm your email address they give you a key and a download link. i downloaded a copy off torrents on wednesday at ~550KBps, and successfully activated it with a key from the above link.
The torrent 64bit and MS 64bit version are the same size (almost 100% sure the same file, with no tomfoolery), and torrent is much quicker.
I managed to get a spare key if anyone is struggling with the site. It seems to be chugging along nicely now though. I did something a bit stupid with my set-up which someone might be able to help me with. I dug out an old 32gb drive and did a format and installed everything to that. Stupidly though I just had it hooked up and hanging out of my computer so of course ended up knocking it on the floor and now it makes a lovely rattling noise. Whenever I start my computer though I get asked which OS to boot to, and I've no idea how to turn this off without uninstalling everything properly.
Hey...hey, guys. I think my heart just stopped. update - completed in 4:03. My ethernet cable now has an exhausted look of elation about it.
