I can't remember, are you using the D-Tek blocks or Swiftech blocks? Cos my Swiftech block doesn't designate an inlet or outlet. I thought they only did that on full coverage blocks lol.

E8600
Small update. Finally got an E8600. I've gotten it up to 4GHz easy, but going passed didn't go so well. After Xmas, I will try the vdroop mod and go from there.

 

Nice CPU and a nice OC.

 

Chipset cooling
I had a little left over money from my monitor that I bought some new chipset cooling.




Oh and, happy new year!

 

Nice Thermalright cooler, looks great with the green fan.

 

Lapped E8600
Just lapped my E8600 with 400/600/800/1000/2000 grits. Took me about 2 hours to do. It dropped temps by about 3C.

Don't sand your fingers down.

 

Nice work on the lapping. I wasn't game to try my Q6600 and now that it's in the loop I can't be stuffed lol.

 

Thanks. With my GTZ all you need to do is unscrew it, its real easy and I can keep the mobo in. Once it isn't freezing in my garage I'll attempt to remove the IHS on my E6750 with my Dremel.

 

Yeah I can do that with my GTX also but I really can't be bothered. When the alu top on my GTX corrodes I may do it when I replace the block.

 

Yeah, my GTZ had some corrosion.

 

Remove IHS with dremel? What the... Never heard of that, why don't you just use the razor blade + heat -method? Good job on the lapping, though it seems your E8600 was already pretty straight seeing the temps only dropped by 3 C...

 

I love this mod, its giving me idea for my 830. What is the air flow/noise like for those fans @ 12v? Im thinking about ditching my 5.25" fan controller to put a 360 rad up front. Are you putting the HDD cage behind the rad in 3 of the 5.25" bays?

Is it really worth removing the IHS? Good luck with that if you do though!

 

Yeah, it was flatter than I thought.

I've never seen the razor/heat method achieve successfully. On the other hand, I've seen a few Q6600s that have had their IHSs removed by sanding down to them with a dremel, or sand paper.

Can I also ask how you fixed the rad in the front of the case?

Thanks. Atm I got a ghetto setup, and my HDD cage is sitting out side the case. I have the barbs at the bottom and the Feser rad is fat, so mounting the cage is a challenge. I have a few ideas of what I'm going to do with them. I'll probably mount them on the side of the 5.25" bays.

The fans I'm using on the radiator are Noctua NF-P12s. At stock speed they run at 1300RPM, 54.32CFM, and 19.8dBA.

Its not right now. I will make brackets that will fix it soon.

Damn, that's some nice hardware you've got there. That much Noctua gear alone must be worth a pretty penny. I also agree cable management should be high on the list. And what temps are you getting on all that gear?
