Case Mod - In Progress "Project NEXT"

That is a very nice cooler. An Australian PC tech/gaming mag (Atomic) tested it out on the i7 and the higher end quads and it keeps up with the TRUE120 (with a fan on it).

Exhausted the morning searching for Ferrari engine scale model kits, thinkin I'd cannibalize parts to re-create something the closely resembles the 599's intake manifold. That didn't really pan out, so I'm thinkin instead I'd try sculpting it in clay. From what I've read, Magic Sculp works great, so I ordered it from Tap Plastics here

 

According to Frostytech's review, the Coolermaster V8's has a surface roughness of approximately 16 microinches.

 

Is this good or bad? For paint adherence.

I can't help but notice how the top part of that cooler looks more V6 than V8.

Paint looks the dogs danglies.

That is a very good mobo. I can't justify the price of an A$U$ ROG board. DFI is cheaper and performs just as well.

 

Their developer recommends Lacquer-based primers.

I'm kicking myself, because the idea of cutting and bending acrylic rods for the 12 intake manifold pipes hit me after placing my order with Tap Plastics. I need to order some screws from Mcmaster, and they carry acrylic rods.

Don't ask me how I'm gonna do this, cause I don't know yet, thats why this stuff is fun

I wish I could do what Bill does. I can draw and am good with photo manipulation but, when it comes to this stuff, I don't have the skills to pay the bills....

 

The best part is hashing it out. Nobody left a guide book for modding..lol

 

The CM & V8 logo had to go. I replaced the center section of the CPU cooler with round hole modders mesh. To save labor, I'm utilizing valve covers from 1:6 scale diecast HEMI engine model kit I found on Ebay. They're just the right scale for the cpu cooler. I'm still in mock up mode for the Ferrari 599's intake manifold, jebuz, I have to make 12 of these suckas! I found that an old VGA cable was just the right diameter. I may use these or sculpt all 12 of the pipes with modeling clay to create the right angle of the pipes. I may get more detailed with stuff like adding plug wires, depending how the sculpting goes. btw: Tap Plastics goofed and sent Magic Smooth instead of Magic Sculpt. I'm gonna head over to art supply store tommorow and buy super sculpy.

Thank you, I'm just waiting for measurement of space between motherboard and window from Brian before I start sculpting the intake manifolds, or customize the window if neccessary

Thanks John! I neglected to measure the space between the MB (taking into account stand-offs, cooler adapters etc) and TJ07's window before the case left my shop, after asking Brian to make the measurement for me yesterday, It's likely I'll be scrapping the valve covers & hoses altogether, I've got less than 7/8" of space between the cooler and the TJ07's window. I'll have to sculpt a silhouette of the 599 and scrap what I've done for soembody with a wider case.
