Watch the rear brake calipers, I had the same veccy as a hire car for a couple of months. Got it with delivery mileage on, 15k later the rear calpiers stuck and wore the pads down to nowt.

    New pads, discs and calipers.

The brakes are pretty pants compared to my old C4, I might upgrade to the police spec set 318mm vs 284 (I think)

I'd go for a decat and live map over a fuel pressure tricking 'tuning box'.

Well; I sold my Elise. I wanted a 'dad' car - something that I could fit my lovely wife, and my lovely babe in. I got fed up of having to drive everywhere alone in the elise, or take the wife's boring car.

Not many things fit my criteria.. well, lots did, but nothing much that I wanted:
    - 3 or more seats
    - Not boring
    - Reliable (ish)
    - Not japanese (been there, done that)
    - Within budget.

    So, the outcome?

    BMW M5. 5 Litre V8, 400bhp, averages at around 18-19mpg so far.

I am totally in love with this car. Beats all of my expectations, in just about every way. I'm taking it to the Nurburgring in September - can't wait.
It's not as focussed as the Elise, but I'm willing to put money on it being quicker round a track.

Sorry for the pants pictures - I'll take some more over the weekend.

Alex - that's droolworthy, you can't really get cooler than an E39 M5...

leaving it stock? Not that it needs much doing to it! Ever had a look at the Team Poliezi E39's or Alex Roy fame? And I'd assume you've already discovered the M5 boards. Very jealous here!

I'm actually not a fan of his - Him owning one was listed on my 'reasons why NOT to buy an E39'.

I'm good friends with a couple of BMW Specialists - One of which supplies remaps, and the other sells twin-supercharger kits for them, so if (and when) I do get bored, there is tinkering a-plenty to be had.

I would think so - they've got more kit than a space shuttle.

Yeah, it's all wired into everything else, so when I get called (wifey saying - don't forget -whatever- from the shop) it fades the radio and you can press a button on the steering wheel to answer.

Why they put a HUGE phone in, when everything is done by the TV screen and/or steering wheel, is beyond me.

That's a pretty awesome BMW, but I am not a fan of the car phone! lol

It's still a nice ride though. Reminds me of a 90s movie where rich kid is driving a "new" luxury car and they of course, have a car phone.

Over here in the states phones like that don't work anymore.

Unless they use a digital signal. But the analog "bag" phones we use to have don't work anymore.

Iirc quite a few modern car phones are fully integrated into the SatNav system, you just put a SIM card into the dashboard and away we go. :D

Some of the new BMW's have a clever system with an integrated mobile phone so that when you have a crash it telephones someone to let them know!

IIRC GM's onstar system does the same thing, if the onboard sensors detect a possible crash they inform an onstar rep.

If i had the money I would definitely go with a BWM, though I'm more of a M3 man myself... an 04 convertible one, some rims, tires, your set to go!
