    hi !

I'm looking for a good subwoofer since my current speakers doesn't have enough "punch"and I'm also for a preamp that isn't too expensive, so if anybody have any good suggestions, Id like to hear them :)
I don't really know what to look for since I don't know so much about sound stuffs....

oh, and I don't want to spend an excessive amount of money for those stuffs

    thanks :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that 1, right now I have two BeoLab 4 and 2, it for my computer, to listen to music and watching movies, so I don't need an high end stuffs
    .

Convert a car system for use with your PC. :)

That is what I am going to be working on when I get the cash. A small upgrade from my Logitech X-240.

BK subs are great value for money
    http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers.htm

The Monolith is very well reviewed and probably one of the best subs you can get for under £1k
They're well known on AVForums, so don't let the fact that they're built in a shed put you off :thumb:

The Martin Logan Dynamo is considered the best sub for under $1000 USD. At $600 USD it can compete with $1200-1500 subs.

Just a suggestion, check out the Logitech Z55s, I don't have a setup, but have heard they punch pretty hard. Fairly cheap too, I have seen prices vary greatly depending where you go.

BK is the way to go IMO. A Monolith may be a bit overkill, it would give you deep deep bass, but chances are you'll have to turn it right down, and its not the easiest thing to accomodate (fsking huge). The XLS200 gives tight, fast bass and has decent extension, certainly far lower than any PC sub. When compared with a REL Quake, it out-subs it in every way.

Any PC speaker system isn't going to cut it, the OP is talking peoper hi-fi equipment, not the bog standard non-audiofile-thinks-it's-great kind of system.

hmmm... the Logitech Z55s wouldn't be good, cause I really don't want to change my current speakers. the XLS200 seams very good, but what about BK's Gemini II ? it's a bit more friendly to my budget

No experience with the Gemini but from looking at it on paper, I think the extra on the XLS200 would really be worth it. They aren't even being optimistic about the in-room response.

errr, would a preamp even work with active speakers?

(those B&O things set off major alarm bells. very pretty yes, but nooooooooo)

also what the hell are you guys doing recommending a monolith? the beolab 4 speakers are TINY. the mismatch in sound range would be, frankly, hilarious. hell even the XLS200 would be massive overkill.

OP, you need to look at changing your speakers up for an actually decent pair, tbh.

I'm sorry Fod, but I do totally disagree with you.

I've had a lot of pc speakers in my life, some logitech (which were crap), bose speakers, creative etc ....
and these are the best I've ever had, much deeper sound, I wouldn't change these speakers for anything else.
