The 8 pin connector is a CPU 12V connector. It should NOT be used on a graphic card. The graphic card connectors on this Enermax PSU are two RED 6-pin connectors. Your ATi 3870X2 GPU comes with a 6-pin connector and an 8-pin connector. However only two 2x3 (6-pin) auxiliary power connectors are required to make this card work. You do not need an 8-pin (2x4) GPU connector for normal operation of this video card. The card should have come with an adapter that turns one of the Enermax' red 6-pin connectors into an 8-pin connector. If it doesn't have one, here is a tip on how you can rig up a connection yourself. If you wish to overclock though, you must connect a 'true' 8-pin GPU connector in order to get Overdrive to show up in Catalyst Control Center.
Yea - the extra two pins of a PCI-Express graphics card connector are BLACK. It is 3 Yellow, 5 black.
In the link the two spare pins are just bridged. Alternatively, you connect both to GND (black). That means that you should do it like this: Y - Y - Y - B B - B - B - B Note how it is done with this 6-pin/8-pin convertible plug: The wires for the extra 2 pins are both black.
that will be like true 8 pin ? because i saw some adapters on Google it's like this Top row : B - B - B - B down row : Y - Y - Y- B which means the normal red plug and use 2 ground cables from PSU
Both methods will work on your ATi graphics card. An nVidia card insists on having two ground cables. If you do it: B - B - B - B Y - Y - Y - B that will work fine.
I did that and i got overdrive in AT CCC but the PSU STILL BEEPS !! and i'm using my computer while it's beeping with NP that is the weird thing
lol not sata cable.. it's from that 4 pin molex the pins are fine and installed good. power is going Through them to the card with np
Please stop bumping this thread too. It's very annoying. We'll help when we feel like it. I would suggest the solution lies in the beep codes. Bad signal would suggest a poor electrical system. Change your extension, move the computer to a different bit of the house.
CK is this the same psu you have since you first started posting here? i remember you having a galaxy in one of your firsts 'mods'. it was kept in a very dusty room. My guess is the thing is toast and you should buy a new one
Enermax Taiwan rocks... they hooked me up and I received a good reply They said it's may be because rail over load or some thing like that so they will send me cable look like that : So Only thing i can do now is wait like a week or so for cable arrival
Maybe you mean this ? I changed The VGA to another one ( 8600 GT ) and the PSU didn't beep ... When I put 3870X2 back it beeps But the Computer WORKS, LOAD , Game with No problem at all !
They sent me email to fix the problem here what they said... I did what they said.... Here pics... Any advice what to do ?
I take it their trick didn't work? Does that 3870 work properly? Have you tested it with another PSU?
