You can download this beta patch for Battlefield 2 and test it on selected beta servers only. The patch adds Vista support, removes CD check, adds Widescreen resolutions, and launches Operation Blue Pearl.

I'm going to give playing BF2 another go when 1.5 is released. It's not that it's a bad game (it's great in fact!) but it got old and I moved on. :(

    I'm looking forward to this.

Yeah i think i'll also fire it up again after the patch is out, just need to find the disk now (really miss steam some times).

On a side note i'm surprised at EA for bothering with such an old title.

I'm surprised that they're bothering to update it. Still, can't complain - might crack it out and check out the new map.

Yeah, I picked up a copy with all the expansion packs last year for less than 20 quid. It's probably even cheaper now.

Shame they killed BF2 around the time of 1.31....

I played BF2 for pretty much 2 years solid from release (way back when you need to play for hundreds of hours to get into the high ranks, you could throw C4 packs, there was no IO mode and the J-10 wasn't horribly unbalanced), but was turned away more and more with every game breaking patch.

I tried playing again a few months ago and was appalled by the state of the game now. Hardly no servers running proper map rotations (24/7 Karkand/Jalalalalalabelly OMGWTFPWNAGE!!!!), IO servers are dominated by teams consisting only of snipers and medics and vehicle servers are practically owned by the skilled choppa and jet boys who just use whoevers on the ground for target practice (rarely taking each other on).

    Shame....

The air war was ruined when they made the jets so easy to take down. I remember flying in the F35/Mig29/Su30 and racking up 60:1 kill ratios, good times. Then the patch came out and it just wasn't as fun any more. Now I usually play sniper or medic, and usually only play on Road to Jalalabad.

I played a couple of rounds on highway tampa last night and really enjoyed it - haven't played the blue pearl map yet but the addition of true widescreen support and the no cd addition is most welcome.

    Yay, now I can play.

I have a legit key, but I lost most of the cd's, so NOcd cracks would get picked up as a hack.

Widescreen support. It's about damn time.

Haha probably true, but the air aspect was the sole reason I bought the game (after countless hours in the demo). I remember getting quite frustrated being repeatedly bombed. But then I switched to sniper and learned to stay away from control points most of the time.

This is excellent news! I just reinstalled BF2 a few weeks ago, I had forgotten how much I loved that game. I will probably wait for the patch to become final though before I install.

I think people racking up 60:1 kill/death ratios is probably the reason why they may have got nerfed. Imagine all the people that kept getting killed consistantly and how they probably felt...

Be warned though - this is an incremental patch - to all those reinstalling - you need the 1.41 patch to be installed first - installing 1.5 beta onto a fresh install will kill the install .........

i'm seeing some issues with this patch - can't connect to some severs - as soon as i hit connect it just boots me back to the server selection screen after a short delay..

anyone else get the same issue ?
