Hardware Corsair CX400W PSU

For very little money you could have a Corsair designed, Seasonic built 400W power supply for budget builds. Does it retain the usual Corsair quality, or simply cut too many corners to achieve its low price?

 

If I were building a medium specced rig I would go for this PSU, or one of the modular Corsair ones, really depends on the case I use.

 

Well, that's quite a decent PSU for 40 quid.

I think you mean thin.

 

At the price this is available at, there really is no need to ever take the gamble with a cheap unbranded PSU.

 

I bought two of these for some computers at work. Works really well for the price - quiet and gets the job done. Only quibble is that one of the PSUs got bent by Citylink in the post, and had to be replaced. Not a psu fault, though I do wonder whether the packaging materials were too rigid and allowed the knock to damage the psu in the box. As others have said, for a 'normal' PC, you can't really go wrong with a decently built, understated, branded PSU at a comparable price to the cheap bling PSUs with poor components in them that have proliferated in many computer stores in recent years.

I've used this PSU on a couple of normal builds (i.e. non-enthusiast PC's, but still with some graphics abilities etc), and it's performed flawlessly. Glad a proper review has proved it's a decent supply for seriously little money.

I have this PSU for 2 months now, i was replacing a 450w Chieftec, it's much more guiet than the 450.
C2D e4400@3000MHZ 4*1gig 1066 650GB +700 GB HDD 8800GT two ODD runs perfect!

It was a good buy !

 

good review. for the money it's a hard to beat unit. there is a tendancy to look at "budget" components and compare to other units that offer a missing feature for a "slight" amount more. but all those slight amounts add up. and when it gets right down to it, the people that need to look at a unit like this don't need them. good fit for corsair. got a couple of office builds coming up (i hope) so these will fit the bill.

 

so Cx400, Hx520, Hx620 are the only Seasonic built Corsair PSU right?

this PSU looks very good for its pricing. very good for midrange system.

 

I have one of these on my E8500 system.

My only fault I can find with it is the cheapness of the sleeving on it.

As long as these don't go up in smoke after a year of use or something But that's highly unlikely.,

 

I use one of these in my media centre. Although the load is very low (less than 100W), the whole system is extremely quiet. Having said that, I'm still considering a fanless PSU as an upgrade...

On the appearance of the PSU:

For a powersupply, boring is good. Boring is no surprises, no weird behaviour, just constant reliable dullness. My Silverstone Zeus 750 is *extremely* boring, because it does its job, and has done for years, without any excitement beyond its fan noise.

 

Very impressive numbers, especially considering the market stance for the unit. I'm impressed again by Corsair!

 

Probably an incredibly stupid question... but could this handle an i7 @ roughly 3.8 , 4 hard drives, and a Radeon 4670?

 

I would not, no.

500-600, yes.

 

VX450 and TX650 are Seasonic OEM too
