Nice to see a mention of EVE in there - would be great to see more people recommending this game as a well-worth it experience!

A few questions.....what happened to FarCry? One of the best modern-day FPS games - of the opinion of many people I'm sure you'll agree. Also - I'd just like to say this - being a young gamer by average standards I've not had the oppurtunity to play many of these older games with 3D graphics - Quake 2 and Freespace are some of the old ones I have. What about the others - are they still playable these days considering we are very much used to the sharp and crytsal clear graphics in this day and age?

This isn't a best games of all time, it's a games to play before you die. Nobody wants to play stuff like Wolfenstein 3d any more. There are a lot of old games like that which were absolutely amazing at the time, and without them, gaming wouldn't be as good today, but again, this is a recommendation list more than a nod to old classics.

How did these 2 games not make the list?

My favorite game would have to be "Anachronox". It was dark, witty, and very sci-fi.

The other game that I would have chosen is "Beyond Good and Evil". It was simply a fantastic adventure fantasy game.

Curious question appears under my username?

It asks "Whats a Dremel?" and of course the answer is "Dremel is a brand of power tools famous for their rotary tools"

I think your list was just fine and I'm going to check out a few of those.

However, I do think you might consider Ultima on your list of must-plays. I've played the Ultima series since Ultima 1 on my C64 but if you're looking for a PC game that is still playable then you don't have to look further than Ultima 7.

Ultima VII was perhaps one of the most amazing games I've ever played. Almost everything is touchable. Everything has a consequence. The world is massive and the game provides untold hours of gameplay. You can finish the game having never explored 60% of the game content.

The Serpent Isle was really just U7 Part 2, and was nearly as good as U7.

Both are playable using Exult - a free re-creation of the game engine that plays on Windows, Linux, MacOS, etc and only requires the original game data files.

There's a reason the Ultima series was so immensly popular. It defined what an RPG could be. It's unfortunate that so many "RPG" games these days aren't much more than ProgressQuest.

Prince of Persia : The Sands of Time? I could have lived my life quite happily without ever having played that game.
