Just hope that MS have enough server capacity on 15th July for those wanting a cheap copy of Windows 7, if the pricing is correct then its a third of the retail price for "home" version although will probably go for the Pro version at £79.99

Right, I'll be pre-ordering that then. The discount is fairly sizeable although how much will the OEM discs be?

I certainly hope that an OEM copy of home premium will be under £80 come launch. The current vista price is already a considerable chunk of any pc build budget.

That's a very good find. I just might take advantage of it considering I always use English software versions. :)

Hmm.. all pre-order prices are in US$, and those links are to the US site. Go to the UK site, and not only is there no mention of pre-order discounts, but no mention of Win7 whatsoever!

Is this just a US offer?

    [Edit]

Not until tomorrow... duh!... I thought it was the 26th today!

I found another interesting article on this. The pre orders start on different dates in different countries, its the reason there is only info on the US site - they can pre-order now. See the link below for more details

Windows 7 pricing is very close/identical to Vista prices, so would expect the price for the OEM version to be the same as VIsta - so yes mabe £80 for the "home" version

On this deal you get full retail Pro for the same price as OEM - so maybe a better deal.

Worth noting that MS also announced that people buying Vista based machines from 26th July would get a free upgrade to Windows 7. Still trying to track down details of how this works - like will it be a voucher the way it was with Vista ? - hope not

Is Win7 Pro the same version as what the RC is, or is Ultimate different.

I want Windows XP mode. ;(

I have read XP mode is an addon for Win7 Pro and Ultimate. Not seen release details, but might be something you have to download from the MS site.

The RC is Ultimate. I imagine you need Professional (i.e. the business version) or Ultimate for XP mode. Remember that you'll also need a full license for XP too.

Yeah, I have an XP license, so that's not an issue.

It's too bad they're not taking orders for Ultimate, they want to milk when it comes out. I'm expecting $200+.. :(

The official worldwide launch / availability date is October 22 so a long wait. Me thinks MS is keen to get a lot of pre orders in so they can claim the launch to be a great success. At the pre-order price can see a lot of demand.
