Lol, good catch. It is indeed a head crab. I estimate that it'll weigh ~150-160lbs when filled.

Oh, it'll stay in my room for the most part. If I need to move it, I'll drain the oil first. Even if it wasn't so heavy, I wouldn't want the oil to slosh around all over the place. At the moment, the oil is being stored in the two 5 gallon containers it came in. It's impossible to pour out of those containers without making a mess, so I'll probably save a few 1 gallon milk jugs for easy pouring and transportation.

 

Sucks about the leak mate, looks like you just nicked the cappilery, sucks.

 

Ah yes ive done that, screwing fans too tight to the radiator and bam, you burst a channel. I fixed mine up with epoxy and superglue though, no way was i gonna buy an entirely new rad.

 

I think I did it when I was redrilling the fan screw holes. Epoxy and superglue you say? I'll give it a shot. I'd rather not spend $100 on a new one when a $0.50 bottle of glue can fix it.

 

What about soldering it? It is made of copper right?

 

I just filled the hole with a copious amount of silicone. I'll leak test it tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll try solder, but not sure how I'll get it to fill the gap. It's either brass or copper, so solder should work.

 

You can use a thin copper sheet. They use this to cover wood with copper.

 

If you filled it up too much you would have blocked the cappilery, and that would be bad.

 

I just leak tested it, no dice. Still leaked. I caved in and ordered a new one. I figure it's better this way anyway, I don't want my patch job to go bad on me in a few years. I'd have to deal with this crap all over again. Except maybe the next time, I won't be around when it starts to leak and I'll come home to 7 gallons of oil all over my desk and the floor.

 

Bad luck fella, get yourself to a good pet shop and get some of the filler/glue thats used for fish tanks. I got some a year or so ago and my fish tanks hasn't leaked once. Not that big approx 120litres so pressure is fairly low but they do have glues that support huge tanks.

 

Thanks for the tip, but the problem was not the silicone, it was the location of the hole. It's behind the mounting bracket. If I just had clear access to the leak, I'd probably be able to fix it.

 

at least with a new rad you know it won't be a problem down the track.

 

My thoughts as well

I've been messing around with my LCD control. The temperature controlled fan curves are so awesome.


I have two temperature sensors. One is in the oil inlet and the other is in the outlet. The temperature difference right now should be negligible since the oil is not being circulated.


You can add as many points on the curve as you want if you want to make it smooth. I left it at the default for now because I don't know what temperature the oil will circulate at.


The bar across the bottom is actually a histogram of the oil temperature over the last few minutes.


This thing is so cool.

Now I need to figure out how to use the buttons.

 

That really is a cool little LCD, I might have to get myself one .

 

My new rad is here and I'm installing it now.

Got my new radiator today. Looking sharp. This time I won't poke any holes in it, I promise.


Filling it up again! Fingers crossed. (And parents hovering over my shoulder).


Still looking good.


You can see the fan pushing the oil onto the heatsink, but it can't push it through it.


It's up to the very top of the PSU (whose fan isn't spinning for some reason, oh well, seems to be fine).

Yay! No leaks. Like I said, more and better pics tomorrow.


I recommend watching it in HD. SD kills the eddies, convection currents and swirlies.


I've had prime95 running for ~45 minutes and here's the temps.


Fans are running at 60% of their max speed.
