Storage Slot-loading Disk Drive

    You know them, the disk drives that "eat" your disk as you insert them, so how do I get one of those for my PC eh? I NEED ONE!!! NEEED... not need but want very very very badly

    It's called a slot-loading drive. Not many still around now, but yeah, they're awesome.

    There is quite a few dvd slot drives on ebay for under 30 quid. Just search "slot loading".

    All slimline, how would I go about modding it to fit a normal 5.25" bay

    I have a side question, is there a difference between slot loading or traditional tray loading drives on their reliability (mechanically speaking when loading/ejecting discs).

    Well there is a bit more can go wrong with slot loading...
    A bit more difficult to fix too.

    I dont see how they would be too unreliable. Car CD players have been using slot load drive for years. The PS3 uses a slot load drive. Can't be too bad.

    They are really cool drives, but not very easy to find for low price.

    Ive been looking for a slimline slotload bluray drive for a customer project, the only place i seem to find them are on ebay, all of them are from hong kong or similar and are about £80 which isnt too bad really.

    I have a full size slot loader at work, i managed to break it they really dont like dust :duh: its a pioneer dvd106s theres 1 HERE i doubt itll make alot of money tbh.

    I don't see why slot-loaders would be any less reliable than tray drives?
    At least all their mechanisms are located inside the device itself unlike trays sticking out and getting knocked etc.

    I'm pretty sure you can buy adapters to take a laptop slot-loading drive in a 5 1/4" bay. :)

    Slot loading drives have a major disadventage though. No cup holder.
