I hope hope that Kmart listing isn't a fake. Also FYE has reduced the price on the 80GB to $299 and the 120GB with Uncharted to $399. All around it seems Sony IS slashing the price on the 80GB, either till the stock runs out or until the Slim Model is released. The Front Page of Kmart's website also has an add stating that the Rumors are Reality.
Sony just announced at GamesCon that the PS3 Slim will be on sale first week of September. And starting tomorrow, all PS3's will cost $299/€299/29.980 yen.
I read that ASDA in Britain has slashed their 80GB to 250 euros while supplies last. That's with 2 games (and 2 blu-rays too, I could be wrong).
Euros or pounds? We have the mainland's (admittedly currently stronger) currency forced on us just yet! edit - apparently Amazon are taking pre-orders at £249.99
Found the Article. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology/2009/08/18/asda-slashes-ps3-to-250-115875-21605630/ £250 while supplies last for the 80GB. 2 Games and a Blue-Ray are included. Terminator 3 (Movie, and the game). And your choice of Ghostbusters or inFamous. Sorry that was my error. It's pounds, not euros.
We still have the stronger currency... When the Euro becomes stronger is when 1 Euro gets you more than £1!
^ Apparently it won't have backwards compatibility. Which means I have no real reason to want it over my older model.
which in turn means Ive no reason to want it at all. Seriously, I love project eden and Final fantasy games too much.
oh for gods sake, do you have any idea how pathetic an excuse this is?! IF YOU HAVE A PS2 ALREADY, F***ING KEEP IT! its only the last 2 generations that consoles have had backwards compatability, stop whining!
I wonder how they can cut the cost soo much, I've heard many stories that sony is losing money on every ps3 they have been selling, but the reason the ps3 was released was truly to get blu-ray into the world. My wonders are they had to costs somewhere to lower prices, so if they dropped the price on the slim by 100, what makes it different. Have they gone and used a different blu-ray drive, unlike the phat ps3's which are apparently the best blu-ray drives on the market? Anyone care to indulge me a little. Thanks
Cause quite simply I dont have the space to have a 3 different consoles sitting around. Its a feature I find useful and it makes sony seem cheap removing it. Sorry for not settling for less.
I think that if you can have backwards compatibility then it's a serious flaw if you don't bother. Does every different opinion to yours have to be pathetic?
over time manufacturing costs go down. i think recently they were losing barely any money on the PS3. so if they cut price they lose more but will end up selling more software which counters the loss on hardware. i also wouldnt be surprised if they are making alot of money on PSP/PSP Go to help out the PS3 as well.
nintendo never had backward compatibility really (except for nes) and noone whined, same with sega now tell me how many people actually use BC on Xbox 360 i had PS2 and never played PS1 games on it, and when Ill finally get PS3 i wont bother with PS2 games as well
