With a new series of GPU's incoming it will be interesting to see every one's intentions towards upgrade paths or how the new cards may not influence them. Select which best fits you, or if none then what? (PS: Anyone have the UK prices for 5800's?)
I'm still running a 1GB 4870, and have resisted the urge to pick up a GTX 275 in last last couple of months. I probably won't be upgrading any time soon although I'll almost certainly pick up a DX11 card in a few months time, just not at release because they're always more expensive. I'll probably wait till one of the mid to high end cards comes down to the £150-£200 price bracket, as that's the sweet spot for me. I think it'll be a doubly expensive purchase as well as I think I'll have to upgrade to a 24" monitor at the same time
I'll wait until the DX11 cards come down in price. Then I'll probably get whichever nVidia card is the best deal, and retire my 8800GTS to my secondary card/PhysX card.
no point in buying 5870 when it's really expensive and performance may be beaten by a cheaper nVidia or Intel card. i'll "Waiting for DX11 to stabilize in prices andd purchase best buy!" just like i bought 8800GTX after HD2900 comes out and saw which one is better.
TBH, I could probably get away without an upgrade for another year now I think about it. I can still play most games I want to at decent settings, although that may well change next year when SupCom 2 is released. I guess it all depends on the pricing (and, I suppose, if DX11 actually proves to be worthwhile); if they're not as good value as the 4800 series for the extra performance I'll get then I may give it a miss altogether.
I think thats prehaps the best option really. ATI really requires aggressive pricing if their wanting to make a big profit.
Well, I'll see what an i5 750 does for my TF2 framerate, but I can't really see myself upgrading from my 8800gts 512 for a bit. Probably when the gt300 or 58xx cards drop into the ~£100 range I'll be upgrading.
considering how long the damned thing[5870] is I'll opt for the x2 this time around. Questions to bit-tech staff, if you have the card in your possession what's the overall length of the card? Is the eyefinity model and 2gb model one and the same? or is it sold separately as a special editon? hopefully answering those questions aren't a breach of NDA
Well i love to spend my money so i might get the 5870x2 to replace 2 x 1gb 4870's im running at the moment!! i know its stupid but i would rather spend the money on my Pc then the Wife!!
I am going to wait and see which card has the most bang for my buck. My 7900GS is in need of an upgrade after serving me for 2+ years.
For now a GTX 275 but depending on how this newer one does when it comes i might get a 5800 series card
Ive got a Sapphire HD4870x2 with a Accelero Xtreme cooler, and happy with that, not gonna upgrade my gpu to one of the Dx11 cards as im happy with what I got at the moment!
I'm fine with my GTX295, and tbh, what will DX11 bring anyway, it's not like 90% of my games use DX10, infact, i only own 2 games that can use DX10, and that's Crysis (no big shocker) and World in Conflict, and that's it. Sam
I love my HD4850. Should be fine, as i'll be going to college in August. For now, senior year is quite hectic.
