Other Cell Phone Ringtones

Anyone know a good way of sending/converting/etc a MP3 to be used as a cell phone ringtone?

you upload the song and tell what time in the song you want your ring tone.

I use garageband on mac for my ringtone needs... but I have an iPhone, and live in the uk so it's my only option really..

 

Get a phone that can play mp3s, keeps things simple Even ridiculously cheap phones can play them these days.

 

For what phone? most will use MP3's (except the iphone, but there is a work-a-round)

for my iphone I use iTunes to create a file of the right length

Set the import properties of iTunes to AAC.
Select the track you want to create a ringtone of and make a note of the start and end time of the section you want to use as a ringtone (30 seconds max).
Go to "Get Info" in the context menu and select options.
Change the Start & End time to the Start/End time of the section you want to use.
Close the properties menu and select create AAC version from the tracks context menu.
You should now have a new track where the time is <30 seconds long (you can now reset the start/end time in the original track).
Drag the new track to the desktop (or a folder if your going to keep a backup copy your new ringones) and enable viewing file extensions in the explorer window options.
Change the file name extension from .m4a to .m4r.
Open the Ringtone tab in iTunes and drag & drop the renamed file in to the window.
Re-sync and you should have your new ringtone.

bit long winded but it works.

 

Depending on the phone and what it wants I use Audacity.

 

the phone might but the provider might decide you won't be able to use it... I can't do this with my LG Rumour, thanks Bell Canada !

 

I find Audiko.net works well. Even grabs sound from Youtube videos.
