Thanks, only a few more parts to anodise, the hinges and some parts under the top and front.
The parts visible when the case is closed up will all be polished.

Thanks, the part of the brake that fits on top to clamp the metal down needs a straight edge.
And, because when you bend a piece of metal there is often some "springback", a 90 degree
edge wont do, the angle has to be slightly more so you can go over to allow the metal to
spring back. This edge was ground by a work collegue on some machine or other, me thinks
it's a mill.
The alu is just, well, alu I buy from the supplier.

It's taking longer to make parts these days, only because of the very limited time
I can spend doing this. In October I have two weeks leave, and I'm aiming to wrap
this up shortly after.


Because the new nose piece will carry on the theme established by the plates,
there will be a lot less room underneath so, some modifications needed to be
made to the lower rail and mount.



Where the nose attaches to the lower rail needs some chiseling and routing.







The nose is made from two pieces so another was cut and glued on (forgot to take
pics). Meanwhile, the channel for the LED's was routed into the base of the plex
upper rail.





Back to the nose, some rough shaping using the angle grinder and orbital sander.



Then in the vice a shape to mimic a plate was carved into the nose.







And in it's unfinished state it looks like this.







Here you can see that it's more interesting and a little more aggressive now.

What would you think about putting another "fin" on top of the nose? I'm thinking it would really tie the whole top section together nicely. If possible (notice I did not say easy) you might even be able to sandwich that piece between the nose you've already created and another piece of wood, so that the only visible part would be the front edge, much like what you have running vertically on the doors.

Either way, I watch.

And drool.

That nose part will make everything fit together! Damn this is just getting better and better, I can't wait for the next update. Sucks you have limited time in October, but I guess we just have to be patience. There's no need for rushing on such a masterpiece

The new nose blends very well with wood and aluminum. I like the shape transition.

Regarding the time isues, I can't seem to recall that Da Vinci rushed painting Mona Lisa? I think the longer the wait the bigger the masterpiece. After all, art is best served matured. Not to create too high expectations, but MOTY is a definite minimum. Definitely has my vote there.

 

Nooooooo you can't finish this. How will I see how you get round the next issue/problem with your mad skills? Nooooooooooo I tell ya.

This is an amazing case of the highest order and I have loved watching every step.

Hopefully you have another case to do soon (I'm sure I read that in this log somewhere)

@Fisher Thanks for the idea, I have a few more more pics here, and to my
mind it looks pretty much complete as it is, although I've been toying with the idea
of putting a "hood ornament" on the nose.

@wahoomcdaniel Wow that's not the alienware case I remember. Looks cool.

As for when it will be finished, well, I would like to think that I can finish this some
short time after my two weeks off at the end of October. So that means sometime
early November. But I've been hopelessly inaccurate with everything else so this
may be no different.

With the new nose I'm satisfied with the way the top looks.









Now the task of filing down the plates so they all sit an even distance from the side
panels and adjusting the gaps between the plates. This latter task is particularly
tedious, for example if I want to adjust the last plate, all the others have to be removed first, the angle adjusted, plates put back, have a look, if more adjustment
is needed then the same all over again.

Ive been a chippie for god knows how long and have to say EXCELLENT craftsmanship . Your finishing rivals a lot of work Ive seen with wood over the years.
