Man I really like your loop design its very neat and at the same time WOW!!! And your panels are really interesting! I wonder though, the fill port, will it stay on the bottom?

That fillport actually serves as a drain port. The first time I messed with WC'ing (someone else's rig) the one thing I noticed was that draining/cleaning a loop is a royal pain. So I'm determined to keep it simple and neat in my own first attempt.

 

Powdercoated stuff arriving tomorrow. Looks like this one's going to be down to the wire.

Stuff left to do:
1. New PSU (my DA700 has not yet been delivered )
2. Cut and paint the mesh shelf to accommodate the tubing/fittings - has to be done tomorrow because the chassis is at the powdercoater's
3. Put it together and fill up the loop

This is going to be down to the wire (I fly back to univ on the 25th morning )

Anyway, I did some final touch-ups and the like. Found the aluminum faceplate for the front I/O ports, so that if getting stuck onto the ex-ghetto I/O plate. Painted the mesh that holds up the res and got some rubber slabs for some SERIOUS vibration-isolating pump mounting

The rubber slabs - this is the rubber that's fed into dies before being squished into stuff like o-rings, bushings and such:


They're all between 12-13mm thick, except one which is 5mm:


When you stack them up like this:


You get a pretty neat (if slightly untidy) pump mount!

One more update tonight (when the clamps come off). Then the finale tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it wrapped up in 24-odd hours

 

Last update before I crash.

I forgot, I got a bunch of M6 socket head bolts for the switchplate. Also, the top I/O plate is done.

Now what I would like to know is this - the I/O plate has some obvious scratches, along with being upside-down when mounted. Should I leave it as it is in the pictures or just give it a couple of coats of black? I'm not really fussed about getting rid of the markings - they're for n00bs anyway

I would, but no time. I think when I come back for vacations I'll try a belt sander.

Matey matey I love your progress so far! Can I suggest something? You can create an acrylic box (black not transparent) to put all of these foams inside and put the pump at the top.
You can put the pump lower into the box just a tiny bit for the foams not to be visible!
This is MHO! All the rest are going excellent!!!! Go on buddy!!

But on the other hand, I epic failed.

Had to leave for Univ with the whole thing put together, looking fine and all that, but the loop was left unfilled because I simply did not have the time.

Hopefully will get this completed over winter break.

 

Right, just thought I'd let you folks know that I've resumed work on this. I was in the middle of partially dismantling the rig when I realized that my last update had been woefully inadequate in terms of pictures. So here are a few for those of you who are curious to see what she looks like.













This last one if a bit of a dodgy stitch I tried of the previous two images.

I'm currently in the process of getting another power supply and making a new hex mesh bottom partition, not to mention trying to lay me hands on another side panel so I can try not to frak the whole thing up again

Also, UV and red CCFLs are gone, going to get some SMD LED strips instead

 

Obviously I lied when I said this would take me a week to wrap up.

Besides that pesky annoyance known as 'real life' coming in the way, I was also basically just lazy. Anyway, I got my PSU today after a lot of shilly-shallying on my part. That was all the impetus I needed, so I got down to sleeving

Removing the wires from the 8-pin connector:

Sunbeam really needs to watch the safety of their tools. Chock-full of sharp edges tearing my hands up

Also daisy-chained my rad fans so I wouldn't have to deal with a ton of extra cables:

You see, thats better now! I didnt see that update you did with the mesh, thats very nice and clean! Be more careful with the tools, but you are right, sunbeam and not only, should make better and more functional tool, especially that ATX remover must be redesigned I believe. Mod on!

Got the waterblock for my 5870, will mount it up as soon as I get the card off the LN2 bench











Yes, I know this hardly counts as an update but I need to keep this worklog alive
