Yup. When I was done with the rad support, I was thinking the same. But then, if I am to redo this, I'd make the support in 1 piece. Then, I'd put some details on top. Great suggestion though.

Koolance pass-through? I'm not very familiar with that. Any details? I admit the hoses look drab when compared to the rest of the mod. I'll try to work on that.

This is what I meant. Koolance call them panel mount fittings.
They make them in 3 sizes 6mm, 10mm and 13mm ID:

They will looks something like this once mounted:

You will need to replace the plexi plate you have already but the rest of the installation would be simply drilling 2 new holes for the fittings (keeping the barb on the interior of the case) then you can use a 45 degree fitting like THIS to run the lines to the rad.

Personally I think that would cap off an awesome mod

 

Aha! Now I see what you mean. I do know that my rubber grommets make the mod look cheap. But then it's like I said in the first post, I want to keep the costs down.

Compression barbs are really nice, no doubt. But then it'd also drive my cost up 2 times. Also, my ancient hardware doesn't justify the additional cost too.

I hope those filters (the three part ones) work out for you. I used those same ones when I modified my Celestron C-11 and I decided them to be not so good in filtering dust particles. However, they do look very nice.

 

Nice job so far - if not excellent.

One small suggestion, though: Put the fans on top of the rad and suck the air through instead of blowing it. If not for the improved performance then for the sake of protecting the fins and make the top look a little more "sealed off" and completed. You can still have the filters on the underside of the radiator - just buy 2 more filters and use them without the filter itself on the fans - will make for an OK fan protection grill - or buy a black A.C. Ryan acrylic grill to sit on top?

Ya, I think they aren't a foolproof solution too. But it's always better than nothing.

Would sucking the air in improve performance? Anyway, FWIW, the fans that I'm using are pretty crap too... And like I said If I had to do it again, I'd definitely make the rad support out of a single piece.

Plus, most rad grills are bigger than 2x120 in dimension so they won't be very useful here either. Thanks for the thoughts!

There's lots of debate over push-versus-pull for rads. I think go with whatever you think looks and performs up to your expectations. Don't go pulling things apart and putting them back together unless it's really worth the time and effort (example: you're getting strangely high temps, might be worth changing a few things around).

As for the grills - you've shown some serious metalworking skill, so make 'em yourself! I did, and besides the filing, it really wasn't much work!

 

Nice and clean job, with almost no power machines. Very nice.

Dislike a little the so exposed rad, but it's an impressive work.

 

Yeah, I'd also say: make the grills yourself. This case really deserves it!

 

OK. Based on all these feedback, I will be making some changes to rad support. Stay tuned.

awesome build... just some comments, with the stripes maybe continue them over the top grill, it sorta stands out as is... and i agree with others, a grill on top of the rad would be icing on the cake

Ya I'm working on a cover for the rad. Hopefully I can get some metal work done tomorrow evening. Wife will be out bowling.

Minor update.

Based on the feedback gathered here at the bit-tech forum the last time. I decided to work on a new rad cover. I guess it does looks a little incomplete.

As always, I draw up the design on paper first.


Next, transfer the design onto the workpiece.




Begin cutting...






Cutting done. Filing next...


And 2.5 hours later after I started working. Man... It's a lot of elbow grease work. Shiny!


Off to the powder coaters again, and... Done! This time it's done in gloss black. Looks really rad.


Installed!




By the way, someone asked me how I can clean the filters under the rad. Here's how.
