Still not really satisfied with the way the knurling looks, might mess with the bump map again later this week.

Not sure if you can use it Metric, but here's the bump map I used on my BP 45....

    Thanks Mick :)

I took a look at my texture map again and I found my mistake - quite a silly one actually - I forgot to scale down the x-axis :hehe:

    Fixed version :)

One more for tonight - much happier with the knurling finish (added a normal map to the material)

stuartwood89: I have some free time later this week, if you need some help with a particular part of rendering, just drop me a PM :).

Thanks Metric! I'll do some renders this week and show them to you, that way you'll know what I'm on about :)

the edges of the nurl dont seem to protrude from a lateral perspective? looks very flat on the sides. Does the bump map only support light and shading and not physical shape of the surface?

    good render otherwise.

Correct - normal and bump mapping doesn't create new geometry - only simulates it.
You're probably thinking if a displacement map, those create actual 'physical' depth, but as a result, very computationally expensive :).

Yeah i think bump is the same as your displacement in kerky where its only normal that gives you a surface illusion.

Using bump i got this, even comes out in the shadows... (probably a bit too deep on the nurl, but only for example)

Only four passes lol. On another note find multi light in maxwell to be extremely time consuming compared to other render engines ive used, even turning off illumination color does little for me. Are there any recommended settings to improve time with multiple lights and illuminated surfaces?

Maxwell is still slow, but u will notice that it is higly different for different materials, always test render just the materials first to get an idea how fast / slow they are.
Beside that maxwell is the only render that offer something like the multilight feature which i find really helpful and somehow makes up at least a little for the loong render times.

Done this one in 58 minutes using volume lighting and six different ies lights. (101 passes six threads at 3.8ghz 800x600)

I tried the mosfet water blocks in maxwell 2 with only two lights at same settings (800x600 six threads at 3.8ghz for 1 hour and only got to like 22 passes.

If you're referring to passes in Maxwell as in the SL, please note that Kerkythea's Passes != Maxwell's SL, they are quite different in how they're are measured.

To see the same amount of quality in picture compared takes much longer in general regardless of sl number. Also depends on what settings youre using, path trace, bidirectional, mlt....

So are there any preffered settings to speed up multilight?

Just trying to justify moving to maxwell myself. Looks like your getting great results, not sure if i could be quite as patient lol.

Maxwell is unbiased, so there are no tweaks beside using less lights or faster Materials and keep the lights simple a single sided plane will do

That is one hell of a case! It's huge! Looks like you have a mini-ITX board in there or something. Very nice looking render.
