The best game in the fps genre for years and it gets a 7, I think i need to send flowers or chocolate to the bit-tech offices, maybe it is the rain, they have fumbled alot of reviews lately.

I don't think I'd call it the "best game in fps genre for years" as that's very much opinion-based, but I do find it rather good..

"Not too sure you guys got the time to appreciate the point of ShatterredHorizon's MP to be heavily tactics based, but otherwise an alright review."
    Hehe.

I don't suppose they'd consider spending a 5 hour scrimmage with me in Project Reality for BF2.

"The lack of different classes means the game is better balanced and requires more skill and patience than your average multiplayer shooter."
Project Reality has quite a few classes and is balanced. Perhaps the problem is the lack of cohesion and requirement/limitations for classes/kits and necessary teamplay. This is what I can remember from the USMC.

    Combat Engineer
    Sniper
    Marksman
    Heavy Anti-tank
    Grenadier
    Officer
    Pilot
    Crewman
    Medic
    Rifleman Red-dot
    Rifleman ACOG
    Rifleman specialist
    Rifleman Anti-tank
    Automatic Rifleman

I love the StC measuring system - was chatting to Chet Faliszek about it last week.

I kind of agree with your review, even though I think this is the best FPS to come out in a long time. The core competancies are fantastic, but there little meat on the bones to keep you coming back. But to be fair, the reasoning (hard sci-fi) is sound and it is very cheap. Would you rather buy two MW2 maps instead? :p

The title of some of the upcoming free DLC sounds very intereting too.

There are no crates in space. There are a few cargo containment devices, that are metal and have full physics simulation.

To be honest I'm loving the game. I'd give it an 8.2.

Okay, the Bing adverts are getting quite annoying now. Nobody uses it because it's useless. Then and again, if it pays for bit-tech I can close my eyes at it.

I like this game a lot. :thumb:

I would probably agree with your [7] if I hadn't been playing the game. But it's a lot of fun, and quite well ballanced. It really is only the individual skill and superior tactics that separates men from boys :)

Indeed, the lack of powerups and other weapons is a great burden for the game to carry. But, let's not forget about the DLC contents, which will be free of charge. And the game only costs 19.99 Euros (or 15 pounds), so that's quite interesting.

Anyway, I think an 8 or 8.5 would be more appropriate. But then again, both my score and your score are subjective.

That's an important point for us to clarify because, while it does increase the value of the product it also cannot and must not factor into the score or any part of this review because any information we have about it is either incomplete or purely speculative. If the DLC comes later and makes the game better, great - but it could equally come along and make the game a lot worse and, since we don't know which way it will go (along with how long it will take and whether circumstances might change in the mean time) then it's best if we just don't touch it.

Exactly: look at Left 4 Dead. From the amount of free content promised by Valve, who up to that point had never regained on a DLC promise, it was a dead cert 10 out of 10 game. But at the time, the DLC was purely speculative, and rightly so Bit-Tech gave it a 9/10 because it did feel slightly lacking in content.

Fast forward six months, and that promised DLC has dissapeared in a puff of smoke. I'm not complaining: the amount of new content in L4D2 is worthy of a new game, but the point is you can never, ever rely on future DLC.

This game is a 9 minimum, I haven't had this much fun in PC Gaming in a while.

while i agree that the game could do with some variation in the weaponry and such, i think there is a certain value to this decided lack of gear; this is by far the most balanced game i have ever played. it is absolutely impossible to get a advantage in equipment, the maps are far to complicated to provide a substantial advantage to either team, and there are no turrets or siege weapons. it's a very strategy intensive game and i think that if they can add weapons to it while maintaining the balance of the game it has the potential to be very good.
