this may have been posted before but couldnt find it or similar i was just wondering what people have in thier toolkits including software in mine 50 pc screwdriver set rj45 crimper tool and ends soldering iron craft knife usb sticks torch antistatic wrist strap small usb hubs spare ide/sata cables mouse keyboard ps2 to usb converter and vice versa antistatic bags assorted screws dremel and still adding more when i need the tools and im just building up my software collection so will update later so what have you all got in yours?
Tools I take: Britool magnentic ratchet drive and bit set Xcilo psu tester mini maglite long nose pliers and side cutters matx Emachine chassis with gigabyte 775 mobo, celeron cpu and Edimax wifi card. Hiper psu box with Tim and cleaner, strip of button batteries, 1 stick sdram 1 of ddr and 1 of ddr2, floopy drive and cable. Ide/ sata cables, screws and cable ties.

paperclip. no seriously. A straightend out paperclip is great for ejecting stuck CD's Also good for shorting a psu to power up a system without mmotherboard.
Nobody mentioned software. I bring spybot and ad-aware on a usb flash drive, along with Hijackthis to help get an infected system cleaned up.
Not a huge amount. Lapppy. Ide/sata to usb adaptor. Screwdriver set Pliers + Wire Cutters Cable Ties. Fuses Thermal Paste Small flashlight. Cd with malwarebytes and Super Antispyware on. Then a selection of generic parts psu's, ram etc.
+1 I had a customer once who had a dead PSU, so to get the cd out of the drive he took what looked like a chainsaw to it. Provided some office humor
hot glue gun. can work wonders on broken plastic bits, loose window mods, cable management, you name it. WinPE bootable usb hdd. and a UBCD and a knoppix disk. totally invaluable. internet. if google can't save you, step away from the keyboard. NOW. my neighbor a while back had 2 small boys, i think 3 and 6 at that time. cd drive stopped working. pull the drive, paperclip wouldnt get it. take the cover off the drive, there are 5 cd's in it. thankfully, it was not a slot loader.
A sledgehammer. Then tell them to buy a new one. Soon after that I stopped getting requested AND my blood pressure went down in the process. Win win.
personally, i use a foundation / blush brush with natural hairs that i snagged from either mom or my ex's makeup kit. small enough to get inbetween most fan blades ... big enough that it doesn't take all day. compressed air is the user's responsibility. not mine. it is basic computer accessory that everyone that owns a pc, no matter how retarded, should posses.
i would argue a linux Live cd and large portable hard drive in order to grab information off installs that won't run any more (plus a little knowledge on mounting harddrives in Linux)
The day I pay for air in a can is the day I have myself sectioned. I achieve roughly the same effect with a distant vacuum cleaner and a makeup brush, and carefully equalizing static charge before turning it back on. It hasn't killed anything yet! Which is in contrast to compressed air, where I would have to kill myself.
Snap - I've never buoght an air can and never really intend to - we have them at work and they are damned good, but at home i tend to blow on stuff... works for me! As for what I take - entirely dependant on job. Usually just cd's of useful stuff and a pendrive. RwD
I don't think I've ever seen someone with such a great pathological fear of air in a can (even though it's not actually compressed air as such, as in Nitrogen and Oxygen, but fluorocarbons, as they can be compressed into a liquid at higher temperatures). It's actually quite useful, you know, especially for cleaning out those places where brushes don't reach (like inside heatsinks and keyboards etc.), and at only 2 or 3 quid for a can it's worth it just for the hassle it saves. I don't wan't to have to get the Dyson out just to get rid of a bit of dust.
I'm not phobic, I just hate the idea of paying for something where the worth is in pissing it away into the atmosphere (it's my student side expressing itself). It's the same FCs as in GBB airsoft 'gas,' isn't it (HFC 134 or something similar)? I reckon the difference is I only clean the computer every 6 months or so, and by then you'd need an industrial air compressor rather than a 500ml can to clear the crap; hence, the Henry and the brushes.
True, oh so true. Usually just take: Screwdriver External Drive Laptop Spare network cable USB sticks with things like malwarebytes, windows service packs, etc. And loads of analogies ! As for compressed air, most pc's I see are so dusty I wouldnt blow them out indoors ! Yuk !. Lucky for me I do have a 'proper' oil-less compressor in the shed which I use.
