WARNING: the following may be a bit graphic for some. Though apparently you're all just a bunch of jaded men who like a bit of blood and torn flesh! So consider this warning null and void. Will try to injure myself with a bit more vigour next time for you lot.


The picture is of my poor little finger, after what happened to me yesterday (friday) while at work. Was installing a drop cloth so I could paint the stairwell, and the only thing we had on hand was a drill, and some screws... Unfortunately, the bit slipped out slightly while at full speed (18v cordless drill) and hit my left middle-finger rather squarely in the pad. Doctor said I was exceptionally close to hitting bone. Only two stitches though...

I have seen worse cuts and more blood in project logs. We are tough around here.

Well, just wanted to cover my butt anyway! These days, one can never be too politically-correct, or too safe! Hence why I wear two safety hats at work, just like Clarkson:

Marilyn and I were bedridden with the Type A flu and watched the Challenger disaster on TV from our couches. Some memories are indeed painful.

 

No doubt! Having the flu is horrible! I hope it wasn't too arduous for you two.

 

Thought we were going die! Got some weird medicine for Parkinson's disease. Worked. We are still here. Very sad time for Americans. Great loss.

 

I did that this last summer. Was using a forstner bit in the drill press and it grabbed the wood and chopped up my fingernail. That was scary. I had a hole in my nail for a long time until it finally grew out.


I also got a drill bit into my hand one time too. Did it right into the base of my finger with a #29 drill bit. Shredded the skin really good. LOTS of blood. Almost passed out because blood was rushing out so fast. I didn't need stitches luckily.

 

pfft. you know nothing of true blood curdling pain. I remember eating something when it shattered...pretty sure it wasnt masonry

Oh I've snapped a couple teeth in half before (one of my wisdom teeth, and a molar), and I'll admit, it sucked, but the pain went away somewhat quickly (within an hour or two), but with my finger, the pain was shooting throughout my body, and is only just starting to let up after well more than twenty four hours.

Unfortunately the picture doesn't really demonstrate the size or depth of the hole I drilled into myself. It's about a half inch around, and nearly as deep, plus my finger is swollen up rather a lot. At the moment, every time I lightly brush it up against something, it still sends waves of pain throughout my body, which is a lot of fun considering I am completely against pain-medication, and enjoy typing without using abbreviations of any sort (or even using proper numerical forms for numbers, such as forty four, which is just a random number pulled out of my slightly inebriated head).

Though I must say, congrats on not only breaking a tooth wide open like that, but also dislodging it quite so well! Though I suspect a dentist may have been involved along the way somewhere.
