Getting closer.:D I would have wasted the entire side to get the logo, but you're painting it.
Nothing says early '80s like giant gray zippers.:hehe:

    A Tale of two doors

I went outside again today! :dremel: I took Sacrilege and one of the other full size G5 cases out to try to understand the door. So I have 1 G5 case and the original door from Sacrilege sitting in the fresh air and sunlight. Being naive, I would have thought a door was a door and a G5 was a G5. Huh? Differences?
I need to figure out how the cubes door is going to be cut from an original door.
    The door from Sacrilege:

This is the lip that needs to be incorporated into the cube version:

Not really a lip so much as a routed out section on the inside! The outside is flush and the inside is flush except for this lip.
This is Sacrilege's door with the inner stainless steel piece that has the door lock opening slots and the EMI shielding that seals the case:

The instructions on the door to remove plastic shield and add memory - 3 steps:

This is where it fits into the original case:

    The two doors:

Check out the instructions inside the door - 5 steps?

This G5 case was a water cooled case and the fan removal was from the radiator - which leaked by the way:

I wonder what coolant Apple uses that can blister stainless steel?
Little pin that indexes the door when it closes so that it gets tight.

After admiring the door situation and deciding I would have to think the cuts out a bit more, I grabbed a mini-itx board from the stash(not the new Jetway that goes in here) and slip it in for a quick peek at placement and options for the rear I/O area.
170mm square board in a tight jam!

Fits so sweet! The quandary is how much of the new back on the cube to whack for the I/O? The normal rectangle I/O panel and use the Jetway plate? What about the PCI slot? I don't have anything to use it for since everything I normally do is USB.

It's the thinking wears a fellow out!
I was sitting and looking at the front of both before I put them away for the night and I like the original Apple power button, headphone jack and USB port but the firewire is not supported on my Jetway board so it could be lost. I thought about a single power button in the middle somewhere but that looked too much like a Lian-Li(no offense intended to a great case) and not enough like a G5. This button:

I have the original from when I cut down Sacrilege.

So as I was packing it up from outside, I thought "How about ?"

Mini-ITX in a full G5 case! Rattles around like a stone in a coffee can. :D

I took a ton more pictures for my thinking sessions. Again I had a good day

There's something about being outside in Colorado in the summer... the mind just tends to wander. But -- it can be fruitful! Not sure what you'll end up doing, but it would probably look cleaner to just do i/o for what you use instead of the full Jetway plate.

It is a trip to see Sacrilege next to a full-sized case. ;P

Not to the Apple fanboys! I love to show it off and the new carry case just hurts them to the quick. They tell me it's actually worth something in pristine condition like mine. I tell them "Yeah, $3.99 at the Goodwill where I got mine" ROFL! Still I crack me up!

As a certified (no really desktop and portable) Mac guy, I gotta say, this is freaking cool. The coolant is just plain old antifreeze with some slime inhibitors. What you see there is galvanic corrosion. Got to see a lot of that working on KC-135's. The toilets leak sometimes, they're just from the hard ware store rv toilets. That blue stuff isn't nice to aluminum. Mix that with steel and aluminum and you get a battery. Eats the crap out of the metals.

    Here's the pertinent MSDS info.
    Code:

MATERIAL CAS Number Wt. % OSHA PEL ACGIH TLV EU
                                                                (TWA) (TWA) Classification

PROPYLENE GLYCOL 57-55-6 < 2.0% NE NE NE

Took a bit of a medical setback but I'm getting more able. I will be back to this when I get the 10 pound medical restriction off my back. 10 pounds is not a lot. I often get to carry my lady/wife Marilyn's purse while she carries the groceries. :wallbash: Get some weird looks at that.

All my projects are getting smaller - even my new pets are poison dart frogs! Can't get much smaller that that!
