bit of a pain as I think the fx5200 in the server is buggered - it won't boot! managed to destroy a vga cable too, trying to plug my monitor in to check what was going on

No criticism there, i just said more polys dont affect render times that much, there are more important factors, otherwise i totally agree, rounded corners do a lot for realism !

    @ metric, do i see particles ?

caps are fine, and no fan! go-go passive cooling. everything looks physically fine!

Then again I pulled the card and it still won't boot :/
i don't want to have to find a socket 478 server board :(

I think I win the fail award.

The p4 plug was loose! it worked fine to start with then I re-arranged the cases, so the plug fell out.

    FAIL x.x

Servers running again with the fx5200 :)

lenne0815: I added a subtle bumpmap to simulate light/micro surface pits and scratches.

About 45 minutes of tweaking the subsurface scattering settings and another 3 hours of rendering, I think my white delrin material is just about done :)

things go so much quicker with 4 threads! (2 on this pc (dualcore), 2 on the server(p4 with HT))
fail on the image resize though, rendering at max kk res :)

Wow, that looks cool confusis! GREAT improvement! How did you get the plexi to look that way? :D

Are you sure about that background color though?

i tried other background colours and they affected the colours in the model wayyyyyyy too much!
the plexi is just the first material in the glass pack from the KK website :)

    That looks awesome confusis!

I'm with Aterius on the background colour though, its a shame it has an impact on the model :( have you tried using a slightly reflective white material?

Or how about some slightly reflective (10%?) darkish grey? That way the orange would draw the viewer's attention to the model. I bet one of your problems with the white background is the way you can see the reflection in the plexi: You can see exactly where the scene ends, as you are not using DOF.

    HELP ME!!!

Well I gave rendering a go and I suck at it. Alot. Heres what came out after about a minute which is as long as it will run for for some reason. There used to be a reservoir on top but it didn't like having something all glass so it just disappeared. Anyway could someone give me alot of help? Thanks.
