I'd prefer cutting a chunk of copper to buying a overpriced water block any day. What you saw up there was nothing compared to this...

I swear, this is smooth as glass.

Don't worry, these will be lapped.
I wonder what will be next?
We finally got the lathe up and running.

Don't worry, it goes on the front of the computer. I'll have updates tomorrow.

This is the power button. The design I'm shooting at is one of the vandal resistant switches. I worked for two periods then had to go to art. I will post some more after school.

Where should I put the button? I was thinking of placing it on the orange strip towards the bottom.

Loving the custom block, been toying with the idea myself.

Just a word of warning, my good friend Ryan slipped whilst doing some hot glue work, the glue burnt his pupil area and his pupil now looks like a 3 piece pie chart. Didnt blind him but watching him trying to get his keys in the car is painful.

Sorry about your friend, that's a weak accident to be in. As for the water block, if you have the right tools or access to them (mill, drill press...) I say do it. The walls on my block are at least 3mm thick. So l know this thing can hold some serious pressure.

Im glad I read your log because it got me looking for local CNC companies, turns out there is one directly opposite the Unit where I work... guess the name should have given it away, Acutech engineering lol

Your wall thickness is totally irrelevant because:
    A) Your loop isn't really under that much pressure and
    B) If it's going to leak, it'll be at the joints or fittings, not bursting through solid metal.

    Thank you very much.
Well, today I added the light ring around the switch, I canabalised the leds from some old pci networking cards. I couldn't power them up while taking a picture, but they do work.
I etched my own circuit board with copper(II) chloride.

Ok, I've got a gpu block update. The mounting plate if from the extra hardware that came with my swiftech water block in my gaming rig.

I still have to figure out some mounting hardware for the cpu block.

Thanks Raiden, I will be finishing the GPU block. I can't believe how fast this build has been going. I still need to get a hold of some ram and a larger hard drive.
Got the power button mounted. Its like the epicenter of the whole build.

The CPU block is now mounted! The computer is going to weigh so much especially when the water is added.
I used mounting hardware from an old p4 air cooler I got several years ago.
Here it is all tightened down with arctic silver ceramique
    [IMG]
And finally I am done with the bulk of the water cooling.

    Little update here.
I made some "sleeving" out of some multimode fiber optic cable. I got the cable when I was shadowing (career day) at a data center. The fiber was laying in the trash, so I asked and received.:thumb:
See that yellow fuzz, that's Kevlar. Its used to keep the cable from stretching.
Here's a better angle to show you the size of the fiber. The glass thread is around .1 mm and it's actually hollow.
First step is to chunk off the crimp on connectors.
Now I get to fish the wires through the orange tubes.
    All soldered up.
First wire inserted. Same with the second.
    And finally heat shrinked.
Final results. I am pleased with the results.
