Just wondering what peoples thought's are on this so so far. I've watched the pilot and this weeks episode 2 and for such a full and rich world they have created (down to news articles in the Caprican news paper having a shared timeline with the airing of the episodes) they really haven't done much with the story apart from leave big interesting hooks at the end of each episode, it seems very alien to the style of BSG's storytelling where you really didn't know when they were going to knock you sideways with a big change in the narrative. I guess it's fair to say I'm not impressed yet which is a shame considering the wealth of talent and brilliant backdrop and story arc they have to tell.

Sounds a bit lame to me. I'll probably give it a go, but I'm not holding out much hope. :)

While it's no BSG i've actually quite enjoyed the first two episodes. I'm only really watching to see how/why the cylons turn on their creators but it's still very watchable imo.

I just think they need to sort out the pacing, I know they have a lot of backstory to set up before they can get on with the real plot but they shouldn't take to long doing that or the show will be crippled from the beginning like Dollhouse was.

I agree the pace needs upping a notch or two. Slow start seems to be the name of the game these days though - SG Universe / Dollhouse etc.

That, and there are a lot of avenues which have already been taken by Star Trek Voyager. It kind of limits their story options.

Watched the pilot at the recommendation of a BSG loving friend, and I thought it was terrible..

No sci fi show lives up to TNG in my opinion.

The sad thing about BSG, was that even though (imo) it had some very good seasons, it didn't attract the audiences the companies behind it wanted. Basically, women found it too sci-fi-ish and so didn't watch it. It was very popular with guys, but since most women were turned off by the level of sci-fi involved, they decided to try Caprica. Same universe and sci-fi elements so hopefully it'll attract the guys who loved BSG, but soap opera enough for the women.

Depressing that everything has to appeal to everyone these days, but that's the way the money's going.

Let's not start an argument. But clearly TOS was better than TNG.

BSG was one of THE best television shows ever made. And that's a widely held opinion. The level of sheer human drama elevated it above mere sci-fi. I haven't watched Caprica and I don't intend to. I'm trying to get a life this year, so I'm picking up new shows unless they're absolutely amazing.
