Spotting snipers is always handy, if you have a good sniper on your team it usually means they are dead within a few seconds, allowing you to push forward with your head being turned into a pink cloud of death.

Pump shotgun is underpowered - if your first shot doesn't kill (90% of the time it won't unless the barrel is in their eyesocket) you die.

In BF2 I used to have so much fun running around with the USMC engi standard pump shotgun, but it no longer has the oomph to do that.

And as for increasing the assualt damage... are you freaking crazy?! Some of them are already stupidly overpowered, with XM8 being the perfect example - very little bullet spread and almost 0 bullet drop makes it a better sniper weapon than most of the sniper rifles... AND has a noobtube strapped to it for good measure?

How about when you're in 'SQUAD Deathmatch'. Squad being the word that people don't seem able to grasp.

I played that once. I kept getting the Bradley and rolling about whapping people with it. My squad wouldn't even support the vehicle. And there was another medic, who either didn't have paddles or didn't know how to use them.

Lol. Since the medics are over powered, you see 4man medic squads rolling people and saving lives.

I can certainly agree with Assault being weak. The rifles suck and people rarely need ammo, or never stick around to get any when you throw it at them, leaving you as a 40mm grenade machine since it's your only decent weapon. Got my M16 last night and pumped a full three shot burst right into a guy's chest on hardcore. No kill. What's the point of a three shot burst if it takes 4-6 shots to kill? Any of the LMGs can kill with that many shots, aren't limited to bursts, and carry far more total ammo and ammo per magazine. So if you can't kill vehicles, can't heal or rez, don't get camo, and have no special anti-infantry capability... why play the class? Infinite rifle grenades is the only answer I can give you, and that's just annoying.

Other annoyance: why is Recon so heavily played? Maybe it's because I play hardcore only where they can one-shot, but most servers seem to be 33% Recon, 33% Medic and the rest split between Assault and Engi as the situation requires. My opinion is that the class is too well rounded. Snipers are powerful, VSS gives them an SMG, C4/Mortar gives them an amazing anti-vehicle, ghilie suit makes you blend in very well almost anywhere, All Kit weapons give them an assault rifle/SMG/shotgun. Only thing you don't have is a defib or medi-pack. It's to the point where I'm looking into ways to restrict classes for my server.

And on a fun note, try the shotgun slugs. They're dead accurate and give you crosshairs even in hardcore. I enjoy using the Saiga with either Medic or Recon kit (as highlighted earlier, there is little reason not to choose these two). And all that negativity said, I do very much enjoy demolishing things with 40mm grenades and RPGs.

in class based games you'll always get opinions on how one class is more powerful than another etc etc. Recon is the only class i dont play really, so i obviously think the sniper is well overpowered (although servers certainly need a sniper cap)

the amount of times i've logged into a HC server and got sniped immediately, respawned, sniped, respawned, sniped. log off, find another server.

Medic is incredibly easy to harvest points with, and quite often you'll find the top player in a server is a medic with a negative K/D

the knifing is a bit anooying at times, especially when you pump a clip into that guy running towards you (including 2 headshots), and he still gets there and knifes you in the face. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

It has a cooldown, and they have to be really close to your crosshair. It doesn't work if they are behind too much cover etc.

My main annoyance so far is the lack of any real incentive to get new guns as a Recon.
I'm working on my M95 now after picking up everything else the Recon has, yet I'm back using the M24 (starter rifle) after experimenting with the other rifles and finding them either too-similar or obsolete.

The full acccuracy of the GOL is nice, as is the fire rate of the VSS (pity about its range and damage); and the high damage & penetration of the M95 might be situationally useful but I imagine I'll still be equipping the M24 nine times out of ten, which seems like either bad weapon balance or eccentric playing on my part.

I understand that there can be only so much variation between Sniper Rifles, but when the higher-ranked rifles offer no real advantage over the one everyone gets it does feel a little hollow pursuing Recon ranks. :(

As far as I can tell it has more of an 'anti-spam' cooldown than a straight cooldown between spots.
What I mean is that it's possible to dart between distant targets on the screen and spot them all individually in a very short space of time without feeling any cooldown, but hammering it seems to put it on cooldown for a few seconds.

    The weapon balance is crappy.

At the moment, I find that the most reliable weapon is any of the pistols. They're dead on accurate even at the farthest of ranges, and recoil doesn't seem to affect your shot much. I've gotten to 20 kills before dying with just my pistol and knife.

Right now, everyone seems to be playing medic, because the machine guns are hilariously overpowered.

I havn't been able to play all that much, due to network issues. I hope they work all the bugs out. At the moment I'm really irritated that this game cost $50 and hardly ever works for me.

I've been playing medic because I love resing/healing people rather than the LMG's being over powered however I have to agree, being able to hold down the trigger and squeeze off 200 rounds on the M249 is a little unbalanced.

What they could do to solve this is as they did in 2142, add a heat meter to the LMG's and require that they cool down after firing too many rounds in quick succession.

Dispite me telling you to "lrn2spot" in steam chat :duh:

    On topic:

I mainly play engi, mainly cos I can't be bothered to unlock to paddles for the medic, and I don't like the starting LMG (no idea what it's called) And the bullet drop makes recon too hard for me (que sheepanator saying thats just cos I'm crap)

Really like the AT mines though.

I've been able to put in a few good hours ad I ahve to say that spotting makes life so much easier plus is a handy score booster when the guy you spot gets it, more so if a squad mate bags the kills. Coming off long term BF2 playing, I have to say I really like the emphasis this game puts on team work over just being the "l33t killer" as shown when i was lucky to play witha few people with TS on and our squad topped the board with a large margin between the net lot. I think alot more people need to realise the team-play aspect and let the game really get into its stride.
As i'm one of the few guys who seem to bother with the armour in this game, the spots really help if an enemy tank is loitering nearby or a horde of AT-totting engineers. On the other hand I get more points on average just by hanging back and spotting targets whilst lobbing shells at enemies when they are spotted for me etc.

Anyway, long story short: Q-spotting = Excellent :D

Once enemies are spotted (and hiding) I like the Splash damage on the Bradley, great for hosing down people hiding in buildings. What I don't like is the fact the Russian BMD3 (Боевая Машина Десанта) with the 30mm Cannon can Decimate the Abrams. It would possibly destroy the tracks and other appendages but make it explode, hell no. That is like the equivalent of throwing a jammy dodger at a car and it exploding.

In fact that Russian APC seems to have mega armour too.

I agree, unlocked the Barrett but i think you'll be disappointed by the "higher damage and penetration". The increase in damage still means it's 2 shots to the chest or 1 shot to the head, so the only benefit is for assists (and as a sniper you should be killing in one hit anyways :p).

As for penetration, i've never really noticed it... i mean you get a hit marker now when you shoot a helicopter, but it doesn't seem to do that much damage (although do they have location based damage? i.e. shooting the rotor point thing or the tail do more damage? Will have to experiment). Besides, you can shoot out pilots now with a normal sniper anyways if you can get the cockpit.

However, i'm finding the drop in accuracy to be a real pain, maybe it's just in my head but over distance, shots i'm sure i would have made with the M24 have missed (or not been headshots).

Overall, as you say the M24 is perfectly fine for "normal" use... i'll be switching to the GOL when i finally get a platinum star for the M24 (currently at Gold Level 2) just to try out the increased accuracy and fire rate, but for all intents and purposes the M24 does the job well enough.

By the way, how have people been finding the "Spotter Scope" upgrade for the Recon (2nd Weapon Specialisation)... the description says it automatically spots enemies but i'm finding that it does nothing and i still have to press Q.

Also wondering whether or not the Magnum Ammunition (25% extra damage) will result in one shot chest shots?
