    Jubilee clips.

Is there any/much play/wobbling in any of the assembly?

I'm seriously impressed that you haven't had any problems - or you haven't shown us any mistakes!

Using fuel line for couplings is a bold move.

Since you mentioned people reading the thread and not posting, I though I would ask a few questions, because a project like this is definately on the cards for me in the next 12 months. I've been subcontracting all CNC work (even the smallest stuff) out to various other companies for the past couple of years and think it's time to take the plunge and make an investment in something like this. I would buy a small prebuilt mill, but the fact is that they are all way overpriced when something like this will do exactly the same job and it can be custom built to suit my needs.

Those are specifically that it will need to be able to mill Alu up to 5mm thick (I don't mind having to make multiple passes) and should have a table size of at least 2'x2'. How does yours stack up against a specification like that? I really love the design. Are you following any homebrew CNC guides or is it something you came up with on your own? Lastly, it may have been mentioned here before now but I've missed it - what resolution does this operate at? A lot of the homebrew guides I've seen online are for CNC's that have massive resolutions in comparison to what I'd need and as a result are no use to me. Yours looks much more precise than they are though.

The design itself is completely made from scratch, the only input i had before were a few pics of other diy cncs and general knowledge about cncs.

The working area itself is customisable, u can extend / shorten any of the three axis by just replacing some of the alu profiles, spindles and rails.
Once this "proof of concept" works im going to extend one axis to around 1m 80cm which allows me to cut much larger pieces.

rigidity of the whole assembly right now is really good, theres no play in the assembly at all.
how much flex ittl have overall i can only see when its finished.

I think just from the build i could cut as precisely as 1 / 100 of a mm but there will be definitely some flex in the assembly which i cant really calculate in any way.

5mm alu is my target aswell, but again ill have to finish the whole thing and just try it :)

wiring in the shop, now with all the stepper drivers and two psus

Finished ! (motors are missing though )

Doing some more work on the last axis

I'm interested in seeing how much overshoot you get with those radiator hoses.

Me too :D later on today ill probably find out !

@ cheaps its roughly around 1500 E right now

i tested flex in the assembly and i can flex the spindle mount with a certain amount of force, so thattl be probably one of the first parts im going to cut again out of a stronger material.
