The Tesla is loosely based on the Lotus ;)

IIRC the basic tesla chassis was designed by lotus.

im not sure that a gt3 has a roll cage designed for crashes. it might just be for rigidity to improve handling.

scary looking crash all the same

someone has figured out how to print from an ipad

It's a bolt-in roll cage, not a full-body crash cage. It'll only do good if you roll the car, not smash it into a tree with such ridiculous force.

Meh. I'd hit it, as would most of the guys on this forum and probably a few of the girls.

Oh i completely agree, i was just surprised by the massive amount of crumple to what should be a very strong cage! But as with everything add speed and an immovable object and not much will save you.

Even then i imagine their skulls were caved in by the handy amounts of metal piping slamming against them, not a nice thought but you are supposed to wear a helmet when with a cage for a reason...

What killed them was probably massive head trauma from the +100 mph to 0 decelleration they experienced.

Basic chassis is a Lotus. IIRC it's a rearrangement of Lotus' Versatile Vehicle Architecture (aluminium extrusions which also underpin all of Lotus' current range) and they've got about 6% parts commonality. The test mules were definitely just electric Elises.

Yup, I don't think it really matters what the car's built of at that stage - the human body just doesn't really survive a 100-0 deceleration. They must have been doing some serious speed.

You every flown on a plane? Or travelled on a high speed train (not a British one mind you)? If you have then you've survived a 100-0mph deceleration, what matters is the rate of deceleration not the change in speed. Next we'll be hearing that it's impossible to breathe if you travel at over 20mph :p.

Amateur rally driver on another board I surf, had a big off at ~90-100mph, this Safety Devices bolt-in (as used and developed by Peugeot Sport) saved his and his co-driver's life.

I seem to remember they trotted out a load of doctors who said 100mph would kill the first person who tried it? But yes I should have pointed out it's the instantaneous nature of the stop that's fatal - like they say, it's not the fall that kills you but the sudden deceleration... :D
