Yes. The Coke can has been declared to be the USC (Universal Size Comparator). However, I have recently discovered that AA batteries will do in a pinch. Some of my other can work over the years...

 

Cut a piece of aluminum and temporarily placed it. I start out with a full box-width aluminum band even though the shadows distort it somewhat. You'll also see a slight overhang at the edge because...well...that's the way I do things.

 

The beer strip looks good. I'm just not sure on the switch.

but white plastic in USB ports is driving me NUTS. Sharpie it away please. Light brown sharpie should look nice...

I dont personally like the chrome zig zag, i think a more sundial ish pattern would have been more appealing.
I am not sure on the button being bright chrome especially against the matte finish on the fins.

Square button...Mother of Pearl ...for me

I kind of like how it looks without a button.
But then again I've got a monolithic case.

Well, there is no switch. Only a button to an imaginary switch. I would never put a real switch on the SSD box because then it would become tethered by a wire. I could have just as easily placed the aux ports on the back of the Pico box but didn't for the same reason.

Thanks. Lots of possibilities here. Too many. Any one remember Mission? What color side panels? Big difference here is that changes are pretty much permanent.

This is as far as my pimpage will go. You might want to look at the new Artigo 1100. It contains the same board plus it has other bits like front panel ports all for the same price. I think the board in the Artigo has a slightly different HSF but I could be wrong.

After scoring the outline I used my razor knife to literally carve out hundreds of tiny little pieces of cherry. I did this hopefully to prevent any slippage and subsequent damage to nearby surfaces. It worked.





When the underlying basswood started to appear I switched over to my small straightedge to use as a scraper. I had originally used the straightedge's width as a guide to the aluminum band's width so this all worked real nice.





Result of efforts. A hobby file was used to trim down the edge of the adjacent aluminum and fingernail files were used to flatten out the new surface. Garnet-based fingernail files NOT emory-based ones.





Playing around with a look. A small black bit on the front might not look too bad considering the other small black bits on the back. The DE box is out for final massage and spraying.

I think I'd go with no 'button'.
I really like how pure it looks with just the Aluminum strip.

 

You do know that is wood and not metal right? The actual metal piece is still prepared to go completely across...if need be.

I'd vote for no button as well. It looks a lot more clean without it, much like the rest of the design

 

Yep I'm with the rest here, no button IHMO. Nice work on those usb ports. I'm also amazed by the way you carved out material for the extra piece, I envy your patience!

 

What if the button was the size and shape of the remaining material needed for the strip to go completely across? It would blend in a bit more, but that would be one big button.

 

Much cleaner without a button, I also like the strip along the full length of the side.
