My steam is still on the old UI, and hasn't forced me to update it yet.

I suspect that will finally change tonight, unless I'm lucky.

Still out of Plasma, I see :D
Click on the Steam Tab, then on "Check for Steam client updates"

That's what I had to do on one system.

Strange is, as long as only one computer was updated, steam told me that "i might not be playing with the last savegames...
But it doesn't SHARE savegames over multiple systems with one account?

Ah well... Now the time has come for me as well. For some reason I'd been able to evade the "upgrade" until now, but no longer.

I see that the mini games list isn't quite as broken as it was when I tried the beta (reasonably late in the development stage, I might add).

The Friends list is still as horribly broken as it was in the beta, however. I'm seriously wondering how it made it through the QA process. If you want to see what I mean, just uncheck "Show Avatars". There's no distinction between the user name and the game played, making it pretty hard to read. I wanted to report this, but alas, my account on Steampowered.com, which I've had for years had been conveniently deleted or is otherwise MiA.

I tried the beta for a while and to be honest after the initial 'ooh shiny' I went back to the old style. New GUI installed and so far it's OK I guess.

I'm hoping it will grow on me.

I like the new interface, I liked the old too, the new features make it amazing, love the new library and downloads and the Webkit browser is like a piece of heaven.

    What browser?

Then again, I don't use all this "Friends!" "Community!" "Forums!" stuff, so maybe that's where the browser's hidden.

The store uses the browser. You can actually buy stuff through your browser if you were so inclined.

Valve previously embedded IE to browse HTML content from within the STEAM client. Now they're using the much superior WebKit engine.

Have to add that I never managed to buy any games from within STEAM, nor would I ever have wanted to (as if I'd ever trust IE with my credit card details).

    Haven't noticed before, don't notice now... Clicky-Buy
(although I'm personally happy they don't use IE anymore)

For me the most important thing about the new UI is what is behind it - it opens the door for the Mac Steam client and rumour has it - a linux version. I'd give anything to not need Windows anymore.

    Greetings!
So... you would buy games in OS X or Ubuntu and play those games in 7?
    :p

No, I'll buy those games in OSX or Ubuntu and play them in OSX or Ubuntu. 7 isn't getting anywhere near my PC again.

    Greetings!

If the game works on those OSes.

Well, the UI is slower and the headlines are now at the bottom instead of at the right.

The Valve games will, as the press release states Clicky

Once the store is there, it opens things up for other developers.

Well, you could give up your ability to play games. Then you wouldn't need Windows anymore.

This is true, unfortunately. Not willing to do that just yet. I'll keep going until they kill Vista off, or replace 7 with something that is actually good.

When my Steam updated by itself, I got "Fatal Error: Program failed to load modules"!! Great update!! There are solutions on steam forums as it seems it is a corrupt file problem, but its not a good start to the update; not even being able to start steam!
