My number one personal weapon of all time is the M4 Carbine rifle, with grenade launcher, silencer & ACOG scope. I am not to be messed with when I'm holding one of those ;)

You'd have more luck killing them by hitting them with it than shooting them, .22s are puny and zombies are resilient. Personally, I'd pack a G36K/L85A2, depending upon whether it was a police car or a TA base I was looting for ranged firepower - both are compact and pack a punch; a police MP5/UMP would be a distant third if it was all I could get my hands on. Add to that a sawn-off for emergencies, and a short fire axe for general mayhem. In terms of weaponry that's actually available in the UK, that's probably the best pick; maybe accompanied with a few grenades and a Browning Hi-Power if the base you're stealing from belongs to the real Army; that would share ammunition with the MP5 which is helpful for last stands, I suppose.

You can't go wrong with the tried-and-tested. :D

You'd want a scaled model of the Schwerer Gustav?

That doesn't seem very effective for zombie killin'

the .22 really wouldn't be that bad of a weapon, as it doesnt really matter what you shoot them with, it pretty much has to be a headshot. also, in my area .22 ammo is everywhere, so i could probably kill off the entire population of my entire town with the current supply.

also, if you read the zombie survival guide, there is a bit he puts about .22 rifles that supports them.

One of these would be perfect for transport (as seen on top gear):

AFV L85s would be perfect for shooting from the hatches and up close when food and fuel stops are needed.

Being in the UK and being familiar with the thing, I'd have to go with an SA80, with the underslung grenade launcher (for those big groups of zombies) [IMG]

A P226, simply because it's available along with ammunition supplies [IMG]

And finally a big old fire-axe [IMG]

Knives are useless. You need the stopping power and decapitating ability provided for by an axe. What are you gonna do, shank a zombie in the stomach and hope it doesn't bite you? You're already dead.

Course ideally I'd just set myself up in some IFV with a remote controlled 30mm canon and coaxial 50 cal, but zombie movies never have a bunch of tanks and IFV's in them, and that's for the simple reason that if they did, the zombies would be taken care of in about 5 minutes and everyone would get on with drinking tea and shagging.

edit: Just to confirm, that's not me in the pic at the top. I felt the need to say that since the guy in the picture has such horrific trigger discipline I wouldn't want to be confused with him for one milisecond.

edit 2: There's some seriously bad hotlinking going on in this thread, doesn't anyone know it's rude to hotlink anymore? I'm telling mummy.
