I'm surprised at your 275 temps mine under load sits at around 65c and idle 58c, I'm really impressed with the case I've got for a medium sized case the airflow is really good considering I've got a 250 for PhysX aswell.
Depends on the case I suppose, my rig isn't designed for ultimate airflow as much as it is low noise. I'm looking at getting some slightly beefier fans though. Is your 275 reference design?
Yeah standard cooler, The case is pretty quiet no side fans at all, I've also got a CM stacker and compared to that the Anubas case is almost silent.
don't think you can do 3x 5970. and that's 6 chips trying to compete with 3 chips. my 5870 never goes over 70c when gaming, 75c when furmark, so guess the heat generated between those cards are different.
Disclaimer: I'm not a rabid fanboy, up until now I've always flown the green flag. I've just finished the opposite build to you (3 * 5870) here, and with the same mobo, same amount of RAM, and less of an OC (unless you disabled HT) I get a higher score in vantage? Vantage: Performance Preset - 31.2k (35.0k GPU, 23.4k CPU) Another direct comparison is the temps. With a nice afterburner curve, I never go above 55% fan netting me 75,72,67 respectively, but that's neither here nor there. Unfortuantley I can't run extreme as I only have a 1080p monitor, but I did expect the Fermi's to come out on top It's just unless I'm interpreting it wrong, my build was marginally cheaper, consumes less power, and is cooler. Which is okay as I was going to accept the 5-10% performance drop on Fermi. But apparently it performs better too?
If you look at reviews around, 2x5970s will outperform in certain areas. However, when it comes to extreme high resolution DX11 in the harshest games, 3x480s wins out by a wide margin. Not to mention the fact that the 5970s can't handle very high AA. Awesome! I was hoping that someone would have a tri-fire 5870 set up so we could compare. Nice rig by the way! Get some benchmarks for games, and the Heaven benchmark so we can get some perspective. I'll run a 1080p benchmark (everything maxed out) for a few things (not Crysis unfortunately: I can't change the settings now ). You're correct about my CPU; I've disabled hyperthreading for a couple of reasons, so this'll impact the test.I might reactivate it briefly for comparison. However, as smc8788 says, Vantage doesn't really give a real world indication of performance. As for the temperatures and power consumption, well, c'est la vie! Luckily I live in rented accomodation where the bills are all inclusive. I'll probably be able to gauge the power consumption by how angry my landlord will be .
Haha, I'm only revising so I'll fire up heaven now lmao 1080p DX11, everything max, gogogo Post back in 5
Hurrrm don't know if that worked correctly, in Vantage and game's my second screen goes inactive, but running that it was still working, my widgets were moving, I could right click the desktop etc. Anyway: Render: direct3d11 Mode: 1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen Shaders: high Textures: high Filter: trilinear Anisotropy: 16x Occlusion: enabled Refraction: enabled Volumetric: enabled Replication: disabled Tessellation: extreme FPS: 30.9 Scores: 779 Min FPS: 5.9 Max FPS: 124.2 Does that sound in the right ballpark, or do I need to unplug my second monitor temporarily while running it?
the ATI cards will be pwned in Heaven benchmark. because tessellation in ATI cards doesn't perform as well as nVidia cards. unfortunately there's no single game that represents both cards, it's two hugely different architecture.
Got a link to anything? Can't find a 2x5970 vs 3x480 test anywhere. Even so, I'm struggling to justify the cost of 3x 480s for ANYTHING!
That quantity of money on graphics cards really is mental.. I'd rather spend the extra for a 30" Dell monitor, as it would really last the test of time.
Hmm, try turning AA off and compare it to this. I don't know why your second screen would turn off, must be an ATI thing? A direct comparison is here. Guru3D has indirectly done it: tri SLI 480s and dual 5970s.
Hi This might be what you're looking for. http://www.maingearforums.com/entry.php?24-So-You-Want-To-Buy-A-GeForce-Part-2
I've been looking for a impartial review to see how a GTX480 stacks up against a GTX275 with no luck, Anyone seen one???
It can play Crysis on max settings, with good fps! Sign me up XD These guys must be flaming at u a bit Angry disappointed buyers
Well my 260s were the equivalents of 275s (they were Palit Sonic editions) so roughly halve the numbers I've got for them in SLI. Err, that was me
