    No you're right. Consistency in a GUI is a bad thing. And you definitely can't modify the appearance of OS X even if you wanted to.

    This is one of the reasons I don't like Apple. You have to adopt their style, instead of creating your own. On Linux you can have whatever look you want. Last month a friend of mine wanted to turn his PC into OSX. Just a few clicks later her Ubuntu was looking exactly like that.
    However, do you have a link to that nice background?

    You can of course change the appearance of OS X if you really wanted to. Just like every other OS ever. I think most people don't because it's a very functional interface. Just reading the human interface guidelines on developer.apple.com gives you a nice insight into just how seriously they take interface design.

    Regardless, I respect your opinion and that taste is of course extremely subjective.
