    Hello Community,

I've bought a core i3 530. Now I want to buy a graphic card and I am a little tight on budget. but extending my ambitions, I want a 5830. Now I wanna ask you whether that will work at max fps or I should buy a 5770 to go with it?

    5770 ~ 170 USD
    5830 ~ 220 USD

    My Build

    Core i3 530
    Asus P7H55 V
    4GB OCZ reaper pc 12800
    500GB WD green
    ASUS vento (whatever) :worried:

Your monitor screen size is more important than your system specs because games take a lot more GPU power for higher resolution.

If you have something like a 1080p monitor then a 5770 would run games at medium settings no proble at 60FPS. If you want higher settings a 5830 or perhaps a 5850 is in order.

A 5770 would drive high settings at 1680x1050.

"I wanna ask you whether that will work at max fps" I am not sure whether this is what you are asking, but for gaming the i530 offers plenty of power going as far as the 5850. Meaning you will always be GPU rather than CPU limited. Regarding the 5830 vs 5770. Idk where you are buying them, but for example in UK the 5830 can be now found for ca 165 pounds ( XFX from Scan) and the 5770 for ca 115-120. Price/performance ratio is almost linear at those prices. Just go for whichever one you can afford. Both are a decent buy. Though as Rofl_Waffle said the 5770 will struggle to play new games on highest settings above 1680x1050. Either need a stronger card for higher res or go down to medium quality settings.

Make yure your PSU has the required power-connectors for the 5830, as you need a 8-pin-connector in addition to the single 6-pin PCIe-connector of the 5770.

forget the 5830 its a waste of money especially in the UK. On paper the gulf between 5770 and 5830 is not that great. The gulf between 5830 and 5850 is massive. 5830 is basically the 5770 with a few nobs on. An overclocked 5770 is approaching 5830 standard speed but an overlocked 5830 cant compete with a standard 5850.

Most mags inc CustomPC/PCZone I have read agree.

i have the 5770 and can max out wow, crysis (i know its a touchy subject atm) and several other more "up to date" games. anything more would be seriouse over kill.

Spend the extra on a bigger monitor or a better case or even just some really nice case fans.

Alternatively you could do the stupid thing and save the extra :D

The 5830 was rubbish when it first came out as it was around 200+ pounds IIRC. At 165 inc VAT its price/performance ratio is exactly where it should be compared to 5770 and 5850.

Besides we still don't know what is the native resolution of your monitor and that is one of the most important things. On a 19 inch widescreen my old 4670 was enough to play most titles at medium/high settings, but if I connected that to an HDTV or an even higher res monitor then you could only play titles at the lowest settings.

I see that you posted the prices in USD so I'm not sure how the pricing looks like overseas. But 170 USD for a 5770 and 50 USD extra for a 5830 sounds about right if the 5850 is around 300. What varkanoid said was deffinately true when the card first came out. 5830 used to retail for 250/260 USD and that pricing was bonkers. Right now I would say that the 5830 is a perfectly viable choice.

5770 up to about 1600 Rez for a card you can actually overclock Aka vapor x 5770 is aproaching 5830 price in the uk

5830 in uk is £160 give or take
    5770 vapor x is £155 for example

And even overclocked the 5830 is faster

What resolution have you got that going at...? The 4870 has nigh on identical performance to a 5770, I've never managed a playable experience with everything on 'Very High' at 1680x1050, nowhere near. You'd need to drop below 1280x1024 for that.

Personally, I'd save for a 5850, the 5770 isn't worth your time if you're able to save your money for a 5850.

New games at 1680x1050 maxed out is beyond a 5770 now, BFBC2 will slaughter it.

Yes that is also true. So why go for 5770 with a 128 bit pipeline rather than the 5830 with 256 bit pipeline?

Personally I think the good value (midrange) card is never future proof. I mean I bought a 7900GS 512MB and it is still great but lacks performance on DX11. I used to play Need for speed MW on DX 10 with resolution of 1280x1024 with 16x AF 8x AA maximum detail. and It was just so neat.

Now the same card on windows 7 begs for mercy.

So I think spending marginal cash on graphics may let it walk a little further.

Actually thats incorrect. Check out this review:

Personally I would hold off if possible until the new Geforces arrive. Theyre apparently gonna be competing with the 5830. I dont know like 2 to 3 months they should be here...

    GTX465 is already here.

It's up into HD5850 price range though... such a shame.

    5830 is basically a 260 4890 with direct x 11 maybe the 4870 instead of the 4890

they are at best 2-3fps behind the 5850 at worst about 11 ( this is on min fps not max or avr and min fps is what matters)

    at 1920 x 1080

on fallout 3 its 11fps on min quicker the 5850 ( bit tech own review)
    at 1680 x 1050 its 2 fps quicker on min lol 48 vs 50

    stalker clear sky

    1920x1080

    5830 gets 24min fps the 5850 gets 28min fps

so niether card can play the game at 1920x1080 without dropping settings

    crysis

    1920x1080

    5830 gets 16 min fps 5850 gets 21

niether card can play it without loosing settings

proof that the 5850 isnt that far clear as everyone thinks

20% in fallout 3 a relivety old game
less than 5% in every other game

if 5% is worth £80 to you then go ahead the toxic version everyone recomends is about £100 more expensive than your avr 5830. and its not £100 quicker.

took the performance figures from bit techs last review of the 5830

5770 is bottem of every one of those charts and they include the older cards in them like the 260nvidia and the 4870 and 4890

5770 is a great budget card for 1280x1024 and maybe 1680x1050 but anything above it and your gonna struggle and it struggles at 1680x1050 in all honesty

if it was my money id crossfire 4870 or 4890s for around the same cost if you go second hand and get alot more performance

for 1920x1080 gaming the 5870 is really what you require

    enjoy
