This was taken a couple of years ago on my birthday. Arrived in Nice a few hours previous and was in the same kind of pose as statue in the fountain. Believe if or not it was a kind of chilli thus the reason for a pullover.

Awesome pic, looks like a bit of a big crane for such a tiny engine! :D

They weigh more than a 1.8l Rover K series engine strangely enough!

...just in case you wanted to know.

Doesn't help that the gearbox was fitted as well, me and James then carried it under cover. Its somewhere in the region of 115Kg, with the K- series tipping the scale at 96.5Kg fully dressed.

me and Stickeh stripped alot off the engine taking out 10-15kg if that.

It was an overkill crane, on its furthest pin point of the jib it could lift 250Kg, but we needed the reach over the fragile fibre glass body.

Sounds like a pretty solid engine to me, surprising for a siamesed engine to fit in such a small bay. Either that or the Rover K's are made of wafer-thin rubbish.

We traveled over 1,000 miles to play in the World's Largest Scenario Paintball Game. It was amazing.

So cool. I wish I had the time to get into paintball, regular guns are so expensive.

Mentally solid if your not Stickeh! lol!

An A-series engine with a 7 port, or a BMW bike head (16v) can bring in the region of 150-170hp on pretty much a standard bottom end.

Stickeh is having his block bored +60 to give him a 1330cc, with large valves and a track cam, which should see him close to 100hp, for an engine still running rods.

The K-series is considered one of the best engines developed, its power to weight ratio is stunning, if compared to jap engines of similar weight they tend to produce most there torque nearer the redline, where as the plucky K starts mid-range but stays virtually on cam all the way to redline. It gives them a hell of a kick.

The only way i can describe lightweight jap engines is by comparing them to superbike engines, where they are kept on the rev limit, soon as you change gear the engine is off cam and struggles to get back on, only to get a usable 1500rpm near the redline if lucky. Little punch before shift. lol much like the older turbo diesels, shudder!

The K-series appeared in the 1st gen Elise, but was shortly dumped because lotus wanting to export to the US (bigger market) and started purchasing Toyota crap that was already to USA spec.

Also a lot of K-series Elise's suffer problems because lotus used and tuned the engine without asking the designers at rover, therefore they buggered around and F**ked the design. If they had asked Rover they could have had a 200hp reliable road going missile. Don't get me wrong MG got lazy with the TF which caused head gasket failures, but this was easily fixed.

Yes, paintball is pretty amazing. Literally being in a paintball war with 1,000s others, felt like the closest thing to real warfare. Ahh, good times!

Indeed, I know a couple of guys with engine transplanted minis.
One of them is running the 1.8K series VVC, the other is running a 1.8 V-tec.
Both pushing around 200 horses (although the V-tec has since been tuned and mapped for around 210 iirc)
Down the quarter mile, the K series won and day to day, easier to live with.

And now we've gone majorly off topic.
