How about the celica's bigger, musclier brother?

    Or it's rival:

Can you get C4 Corvettes in the UK?

If I had to judge by what I've driven in Gran Turismo.. Go for an RX-7. They look pee-amp and they go vroom vroom.

Is a Renault 5 out of your price range?

I think there's wisdom in buying the car you really want.

I know I would buy the celica, if I were in love with it the way you are.

Alas, I am not, so I'd obviously recommend something else (Preferably something italian - that Abarth sounds good). But you're the one spending the money.
A Celica is bound to be a good car.

    Lambo - VAG - German
    Bugatti - VAG - German

Lancia is only popular because of the Delta, everything else they made was shite.

Admittedly the likes of Renault, Fiat and Alfa have got better in recent years, just many people don't realise it.

The thing is that every single Italian car I've driven on its own was more of a drivers car than all of the German cars I've driven put together.

I think it was Clarkson that once said about Porsche that they "feel like they've been put together by people with oo many fine pencils. People that know everything about cars, everything about squeezing another tenth out of the Nürburgring, but nothing about driving." (paraphrased). That to me has summed up every German car I've ever driven, and a lot of Japanese cars as well.

Hell, I had a Golf V GTI at the time when I first drove a Fiat bravo.
I though "What the hell.. a 1.4 litre". The pedals were too soft, the steering a bit numb, the seats a bit weird.
Then I gave it some poke in the corners, and it went very wrong. Spin, try to react, fail, stall the car, giggle like a school girl.
I did the same corner 5 times, then got it right, and realised that I wanted the bravo over the golf.

There used to be a silver one in my street and it was a beautiful car. I really do not like the styling of the new newer ones, they look too watered down and 'girly' for me.

The new 2010 Celica looks pretty nice though. If it has the Subaru boxer engine and real wheel drive it should be a fun car to drive and sound amazing!

On a serious note a lot of the cars people are suggesting are going to drive you into the ground on maintenance.

Sure get a rotary if you intend to spend hours fiddling with the finicky as hell engine. Buy a cheap 944 if you want to spend £10k in maintenance in the first year. Buy a 3000GT if you really think that maintaining a high boost dual turbo setup that some idiot's probably ragged the hell out of is a good idea. Whatever you decide to get make sure you do your research to find out what the real cost of ownership is going to be.

Car recommendation threads are always daft and this one is no different. And anyway you're only going to ignore everyone and buy whatever you were going to go out and buy in the first place. That said, good luck broseph.

I thought the Toyobaru was cancelled?

[edit] Nope, just more expensive than first thought. Looks pretty sexy.

Rogan: Most people are suggesting mental cars, those 3 in particular are retarded suggestions imo. If ever a thread was derailed, this is it.

    +1

Yes it's all ooo's and ahhh's and gaelic charm and styling at first, but when they start to go wrong - well, that's when the running and the screaming start, when you see the bills. :eeek:

I've owned 1 french car. That's enough. Its soon to be replaced.

As for what to buy? you want a Sports car, get a sports car. Don't bother with GTI this or that. Get something like a Elise or a Porker. Maybea Trevor. No more than 2 seats!

    That, or build one!

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but what about a MR2? (the older less gay one)

The original MR2 is awesome. Enough power to have fun, but not kill you for a slight mistake. Only problem is to find a decent one after all these years.

I'd say go with the car you want. If not, go for an MR2, or a Honda Prelude - both shouldn't be too hard to maintain, as they're both supposedly fairly reliable.
